It's Holiday #2 at this job and I am hanging on & gritting my teeth. Once again, the company has loaded us down with a shitload of projects & demands. Acting like they've never done THAT before and praising us like we came through like heros. Note to high-up mucky-mucks, don't pretend like you don't do this every year and don't kiss my ass like I've done something special. All I've done is bust my ass so I still have a freaking job when its all done and busting it so I'm not in a hole before the season even begins. A hole YOU mucky-mucks dug for me by overordering or underordering or not having things to me on time or by changing your minds every freaking day. And thanks for sending 1100 boxes of freight last week, most of which was supposed to have been here 4 weeks ago when the ad went out. (Our stock room is the size of a postage stamp and the freight manager has been reduced to tears on at least on occasion.) Way to go!

My job is ok, I mean its retail so it sucks, but this company sucks less than a lot of the other ones I've worked for. What makes working with the general public so difficult and hence, what makes me hate this job, is the insanely stupid things that come out of people's mouths.

I am so tired of repeating myself to people; how many times can I say "No, we don't have it in stock" to the same person before they will believe me or before I am legally allowed to slug them. Its worse when there is already a giant sign on the rack which already tells them the items are on sale, but they still ask if its on sale and the proceed to ask if each separate color, size, or logo is included in the sale.

As December 25th approaches, I am beginning to hate Christmas more and more. Why does everything have to be so DAMN difficult? I'm told I'm getting 500 boxes of merchandise and I get 1000 instead. I can't find enough people to hire and the ones I do have on staff suddenly have amnesia..."What? I never said I could work the day after Thanksgiving!?!"

Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

I have a four year degree that I could be using, but instead I've stuck it out in retail. What was supposed to be a part-time gig has become a life sentence. I am sure my parents are so proud of me! Well, it seemed like a good idea a the time. When I graduated from college, there was such a glut of graduates in the market, that people had trouble getting jobs. I had a ready made full-time job just waiting for me! Retail Manager! Oh, lucky me!

I hate Christmas. I hate Christmas! Ok, there I said it.

Now I am sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I searched "anti-christmas" and "i hate christmas" on the web and came up with lots and lots of sites. Some even stating F*** Christmas!

Why do I feel this way? Maybe because I am getting ready to spend the next 6 weeks of my life chained to a shop counter selling toys to frustrated, harried parents and their annoying, sniveling children. Gee, that might be it. When did parenting skills start becoming ranked by how large and how expensive a Christmas a parent could give their Kid? Are you a BAD parent because you aren't willing to risk life and limb to buy your kid the latest, greatest, hottest toy? (I blame that on Cabbage Patch Kids, the scourge of the 80's!)

Is anyone else dealing with seriously outdated technology? My company is running Windows 95 on the registers. The store is only 4 years old meaning the Operating System was already outdated 6 years when it was installed. The registers continually freeze or completely shut down, randomly. We have four registers, but can only turn on three at a time because of the strain on the system. We look like idiots when on a busy Saturday, two of the three working registers crash. Customers have no sympathy (and shouldn't) for us when it does happen. IT's big fix? Turn the register off and on again and wait for the 10 minute reboot sequence.

I have been a Retail manager since 1992 and I'm exhausted! I am now with my sixth different company in thirteen years. Why? Retail sucks and I can't get a job anywhere else because all any sees on my resume is RETAIL. I am a manager, an administrative assistant, the HR person, the shipping & receiving department, and the supply clerk all rolled into one. I keep reminding myself that some one must want me. I can't keep spinning my wheels here.

Why I quit..
Job #1 Leather Store (2 years) - I wasn't selling enough and was given the choice to improve or quit. I'm a good sales person, I don't know why I was having trouble selling leather coats in 100 degree weather.

Why is it that I am expected to run my ass off for people, but I can't get decent service when I am the customer?

Retail is tough job, but employers still wonder why turn over is so high. Let me clue them in...

We hate it when customers snap their fingers at us.

We hate it when people call and then get pissed off because they are put on hold. Chances are we are helping the people who actually bothered to come into the store.

We hate it when people as for a discount. Why? Who are you?

We hate it when the higher ups cut our hours, but increase the store hours, work load, freight, etc.
