Do I post positively...I may be jinxing myself, but what the hell... Seems that in 3 months, we were able to weed out the riff raff(well mostly). The moral has definetly gotten much better, I have had to step in less & less = no face to face with management explaining how they need to address people. The manager seems to peak out at certain times of the day & even she has picked up on the fact that she needs to refocus during these times. Employees are actually happier while at work. With this I am pleased. For the most part (manager included) the sense of humor is now a part of the "process" with getting work done, all day every day. Boss / Manager / Supervisor
As usual, come in at 4am...Start working along with another employee...The round of calls starts up at 4:30am (3rd employee shows up, tho late)...Calls are to make us aware that we will be shorthanded yet again...3 employees later (3 calls later, including the manager). In the meantime her boss shows up (a surprise visit), he is "again" amazed at the lack of bodies & makes the attempt to help out, inquiring where the manager is. He was told that she had to take her 18 yr old to school this morning. While he mumbled/grumbled about that, I stated that at least this time she didn't use the excuse that she had to stay with the 18 yr old because he has a fever. Working out the whole scheduling issue again here...After expecting the beast to correct the 7 days she had me down for, she indeed decided to play with it( a bit of back lash)...She waited 2 days to do anything. I "assumed" that I would be working certain days & wrote them down, instead she switches 2 days, chopping up what I had already accepted...Too bad I have already made plans and will be letting her know in person tomorrow (the best way to handle her is face to face), sadly she was off today, she missed much...I did however, inform her boss that she has been stealing, ringing up customers to cover other employee drawer shortages for mths now...I know because she took from my drawer when I first accepted the job. The day began at 4am and ended at noon...Of course the manager was an hr late AGAIN...The ongoing bets have reduced me to using quarters for the constant employees calling out...I have learned that we do not challenge references the new hires provide, we take it at face value...Leaves the door wide open, though at this rate I will always have someone to laugh at while working. (The Gods have smiled upon me). We have one employee I call "the pest", today he was actually trying to slap at me...Loved smacking him in the nad sack & watching him drop to the floor...An older employee needed an extra day off, I gave up one of mine...I was needed to come in an hr earlier the next day, I accepted...Then I checked the schedule...7 straight days I see?...Thankfully I don't shy away from anyone needing to "express themselves openly"...I inquired with the manager. Everything and Everybody | Retail/Wholesale
My Last Day, I slept in, went to a school event for my child & passed along this parting letter...I know this will be passed to all the right folks & will come in to shop & smile. Disclaimer: Bears no reflection on those who were actually trying to work in this environment...(You know I plan to laugh my ass off for sometime to come)... I have been holding back a bit, so this is long…. I most enjoy hearing the reasons behind why I am not up to par with my own department, or listen while another employee gets to hear the daily banter or motivational skills that equate to a fuck-nut speaking, might as well hand them the KY as a concerned co-worker...I am resolved to say out loud "because I am NOT working beyond the meager hrly pay & the 1% pay increase that informed me and everyone else that we would be evaluated at a lower rate to justify the miserly pay increase…Now I am impressed with the tools you have to motivate, cause it isn’t money… Say it with a Smile Submitted by sandwichnazi on Sun, 06/12/2005 - 23:14.
Boss / Manager / Supervisor | Retail/Wholesale
After taking a position as an assistant manager at a Dress Barn, I found out in no less than 3 mos that my boss was/is a wrinkled, gossiping, back stabbing bitch from hell...Who would have better served her herself working in a low classed strip club (noting that she would fit right in with the cattiness). Ever fear asking for help as the newbie, while being made to feel incompetent in front of co workers? I Hated having to listen (half assed) to the constant backstabbing gossip that this pruned up, under sexed, mighter than thou know it all hefer spouted each time an employee clocked in, out or just happened to move to a different side of the store to perform a task as requested. |
