Grocery stores

Once again I got a prick at the grocery at the night check out. It was OBVIOUS he didn't like his job and he was starting to lecture me because I didn't hit the red "page" button. Well, ASSHOLE, you were standing 25 feet away from me and you look at me. Why the fuck do I need to press it? After his second lecture I almost said "are you about done lecturing a CUSTOMER who pays your paycheck?" Fucking fat piece of shit pissed me off.

I worked in groceries for one year during high school. SHITTY, thankless, low paying job. I see why most grocery store workers are just fucking dirt bags. But the thing is, who forced these fat fucks to take the job? If they don't have enough education, whose fault is that? They have bills to pay, need an income, blah blah blah. So? That doesn't give these fat fucking pricks the right to be an asshole. I didn't make them take this job. In my one year in HELL (aside from the military and calls centers), I had a boss named Dale who was, without a doubt, a complete ASSHOLE. There was one LAZY guy working there who Dale loved, a couple of almost lazy people, and myself and one other guy who worked our asses off for $4.25 an hour. Dale was regularly in my face yelling at me over a hair cut or not kissing customers asses. He once reamed me for tossing a milk crate, a customer stepped in front making it look like I tossed it at her (which I did not), and he spent the next 15 minutes bitching me out.

Bullshit interview

Oh I have a good one here. A week ago, a staffing agency contacted me about my resume and had a GOOD proposal as a Windows/Linux system administrator. I read over the description several times. Nothing about customer service, technical support, answering phones. Excellent! She forwarded my resume. A few days ago she said a lady on site at the job wanted do to a screening, then set up an interview.

I did a quick phone screen. Went pretty well. The phone interview was today at 11 am. I forgot about it, and called at 11:15 instead. I talked to 3 people, one guy named Adam who seemed like a DICK. Answered their barrage of questions. Then he dropped the bomb. "How do you handle irate customers?" WHAT THE FUCK? What does this have to do with a system administrator? I knew where this asshole was going.

Job recruiters

I just don't get this shit. My resume has been out on craigslist (and a few other places) for ages. It is pretty clear what I am capable of. I can't list everything I do because that would fill a book, so I have a 3 page resume. It has become obvious that recruiters DON'T FUCKING READ because I consistently will have them send a job description for shit not listed on my resume.

For example, if you read a resume of a plumber, would you contact him about dry wall? Probably not. How about an auto mechanic? He MUST know how to fix aircraft engine because he's a mechanic. What the fuck?

To top it off, I then am asked for a pay scale. In other words, what is the least they can pay me? How about this, why don't you tell me how much the job pays first?

Interviews that suck

So, what are some of the shitty interviews you have been on? You knew within the first few minutes you either weren't getting the job, or there was no way in hell you would take it for any amount of money?

I WAS working in a shitty call center for 1 1/2 years and I got an interview with a health care provider to be one of their bitches. I made it VERY clear to the lady at the staffing place that I did NOT want another fucking call center again. She said this job had some phones in it, but it was not a call center and I was not going to be a customer service bitch.

The interview turned out to be 5 people taking to me, and one was on a conference call. 10 minutes into this hellish nightmare, it was obvious this place was nothing more than a fancy call center. I asked one of the guys interviewing me if I was right. He said, quote, "we don't like to use that term", listen fucker, it is what it is. You can call shit anything you want, but it's still shit. You can perfume it, cover it with dirt, make it look all pretty, but it's still just shit underneath.

College degree

What the fuck is with all these jobs expecting a 4 year degree? I've been spending the past few weeks looking for a new job in the networking field. I usually go to craigslist. Monster and career builder are a fucking joke to me.

It seems like the majority of these employers EXPECT me to have a AS or BS. Why? Does having a degree suddenly prove you KNOW the job? I'm self taught. I don't need a degree to prove shit. I never listed one of my resume. Yet it seems every now and then some nitwit dumb cocksucker job recruiter sends me a proposal and asks "do you have a degree?"

Did I list it on my resume? NO ASSHOLE! BECAUSE I DON'T FUCKING HAVE ONE!

How much did you make?

This is a question I am fucking sick of being asked, and I don't answer it now.

"How much did you make at each job for the last 5 years?"

IT'S NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS. I went to a screening interview last year and the lady pretty much gave me a bullshit story about how they have all sorts of jobs available. BULLSHIT. I got sent on ONE interview in 6 months. ONE. And she wanted to know my pay scale.

I just got a screening questionnaire and they want to know my pay scale for the last 2 years. I flat out said it's none of their business how much I make. This is the pay I want. If you don't want to pay it, then don't hire me. Since when is it their fucking business to know what I make?

Interview questions I hate

The only jobs I apply for are high tech, but really, these can be applied to just about any job.

I have been asked these questions and I really hate them.

Q. Why do you want to work here?
A. To suck you off. To give you a rim job. FOR A PAYCHECK YOU JACKASS! Why do any of us work, except maybe a porn star. For an income!

Q. Why should I hire you?
A. Why should I accept a job here? A lot of people are looking for the skills I have.

Q. What can you bring to the company?
A. Myself. What can you give me to make me want to stay?

Q. Can we contact your current employer?
A. Sure why not, they don't know I'm looking. Can I call your wife?

Why I hate tech support jobs

Not the first bitch about this I've had, but I wanted to delve into this a little more and explain the horror of it and why I find end users so incredibly fucking stupid.

First, my credentials. 23 years in computers, 3 platforms, previous experience in C and assembly language, 12 years hardware, 6 years Unix administration, data centers, call centers, and everything in between.

Now, knowing this, I would certainly hope I would have learned a thing or two about a computer. Am I an all knowing god? No. Do I know a hell of a lot about a them? See the first statement.

I get a job in a call center doing technical support for retail software. I know full well going in I'm going to be dealing with end users. Some of them are pretty nice people, but a lot are assholes.

Not my job but...

I have not worked in this field, but I have been closely related to two people who were. The police. You could not pay me enough to do their job, but I can tell you, if I wanted a job where I could do anything I want and get away with it, including killing people, this is the best job to have.

I had a step dad once whose job was a cop. I have never met such a corrupt asshole in my life. He loved being a cop because he got away with anything he wanted to. Next was a jailer step dad who also loved the authority. He did anything he wanted and loved to use his power. I believe one of them is dead now. Good riddance.

People, employees, and email

Is it asking too much for people and employees to check their email, read it, and reply the same day?

I put ads on craigslist or write to a company and ask a few questions. The email is sent during the day, and the NEXT DAY I get a reply with only a few questions answered.

Is it that god damn difficult to reply the SAME DAY? Even within a few hours? How about READING IT and answering the questions?

An example: "Hello, I am writing to find out about your widgets. I have never seen anything like them, but I am interested. What I would like to know is how much they cost, or at least an idea, if you have a minimum quantity, do they come in multiple colors, what are my shipping options, and can you tell me if any new models are coming out? Thank you!" I send this message on Tuesday during work hours.

Off topic but I had to say it

I know this place is to talk about work, but I wanted to go off topic this once and bring up something I see happening very often.

Craigslist. More specifically the computers for sale area. I only read the local section (I wonder why), but I swear, MOST of these people are smoking crack with their prices. I just read one today, two loaded Pentium II machines, obviously QUITE old, the guy wants $85 for both. HAHAHA!

People selling 17" monitors and asking $50. Jesus Christ... I bought my 21" monitor for $35, why the fuck would I spent $50 on a 17"? I sold a 17" recently and I was happy to get $15 for it.

Military life

These type of bitches usually get hoardes of responses, but it is time for me to get this off my chest and tell of my experience.

I considered joining the military a few years out of high school. My step dad was in the Army during vietnam and gave me good and bad points. After seeing Full Metal Jacket and the DI beating the shit out of the recruits, I said fuck it. I stayed a civilian.

Several years later I was buying a truck from a Navy guy who was getting ready to retire. Of course he said to go for it. I did months of research but couldn't find anything about boot camp or the HELL I was in for. No matter where I looked, I only read about the positives of the Navy, even though I knew there were plenty of negatives.

Minimum wage jobs

I have been reading more and more stories about how minimum wage isn't enough to live on, people should get paid more, get benefits in addition to their wage, and so forth.

When I began working, minimum wage in my state was $4.25, and I think Federal wage was around $3.75, although this has been so many years ago I really don't remember.

Several of my past jobs have been minimum wage. Grocery store with an asshole assistant manager who wanted us to feel privileged because we made a whole $4.25, next was a pizza joint with an asshole owner (not one single employee liked him, he later lost his business) who constantly threatened to fire people, and more fast food.

strip clubs

Submitted by abw73 on Wed, 09/13/2006 - 17:15.

I don't do this kind of work, but some recent events in my hometown made me think of this. About two weeks ago there were talks of turning an old restaurant into a strip joint. We already have a few in town. Immediately, the women advocates spoke out that they will NOT have this. They claim it degrades women, brings in crime, drugs, you name it.

I have several takes on this. First of all, what the fuck do they care what someone elses chooses for their job? NOBODY forces men or women to work in strip clubs. I imagine they do it because the money is good. How exactly does that degrade them? So what is the difference between degradig someone that way as opposed to holding a cardboard sign at the freeway off ramp begging for money? Both are equally degrading then.

call centers suck ass

Ok this is rant day for me. I don't know why, I'm actually in a pretty good mood, but I might as well get this off my chest.

I have been at both ends in a call center. The person making the call, and the unfortunate person who has to listen to customers bitch and fucking bitch all day, and they actually think I care.

I will give a few examples. I recall some fucking asshole years ago bitch me out for 10 minutes because he hosed his computer, his support contract ended, and he EXPECTED me to help him for free. I basically told him to go fuck himself (in different words). He bitched and bitched until I finally said "Sir, I am DONE listening to you, I am going to give you the number to the front desk and the name of my supervisor. I will give it to you ONE time and ONE time ONLY, I will NOT repeat it, and then I WILL hang up on you. I don't care if you don't like it, I'm sick of listening to you when I've told you repeatedly what needs to be done. So I am giving you EXACTLY 10 seconds to get something to write with, I will NOT wait any longer, and if you keep screaming, I WILL hang up on you. Your 10 seconds starts NOW." Fucking asshole. He took the number, called my boss, bitched her out, then she reamed him. Ths fucking piece of shit called back hours later and was completely mellowed out.
