Finally!

It's been a long time since I've updated here, and w. good reason. One of the irons mentioned in the previous post connected into a finance position at a world wide reputable company. 8 years of blood, sweat, and tears (mainly tears) were wasted at various helpdesks in southeastern New England, but I have gotten out. Granted, finance is still not what I want to be doing, but its a definite step up from deal w. the lobotomy patients that called in on a daily basis. I have liberated myself from the vice-like grip that helpdesk had over me.

Helpdesk - same as it ever was

Well, things havent gotten any bettern in the seven months since I last posted. If anything, they've corroded into something worse. In addition to the monotonous chore of walking imbeciles through the treacherous wasteland that is Windows, we've now been saddled w. the responsibility of supporting the expense reporting system. In other words, we are now the first point of contact for everything financial. Roughly translated, we are expected to have to put up w. irate people who notice discrepancies on their credit card statements when filing expense reports. Now, I suppose that this wouldnt be half bad except for one major glaring hole:

Food for thought...........

Still stuck in the underworld known as IT helpdesk. Spring is coming up soon, and my green thumb is throbbing. I've had an interview at a wholesale nursery, but I dont think I'd be interested. First of all, the pay is only $13-$14/hr, "closer to $13" I'm at $20 now, and still spread myself thin occassionally. I understand the whole career change thing and the step down to entry level, but I could make comparable coin stocking shelves at Wal-Mart; still a nice change of pace from this field.

Secondly, as much as I abhor helpdesk, it has given me valuable customer service experience, and for what it's worth, I enjoy sharing my knowledge w. others. Wait, let me rephrase that...... 'I enjoy sharing my knowledge w. others' under the following two conditions:

It's about fucking time

Well guys, as you know I've been here now for almost a month. Just finally today, things appear to moving in the proper direction. Yesterday, I was told that someone would be sitting w. me at 11a while I take calls, just in case I need some help w. company policy. Totally understandable. I certainly dont need help w. call content as I've been doing this shit for the better part of seven years.

Well, guess what happened yesterday? The guy sits two cubes behind me, and never came and sat w. me! Being the new guy, I didnt feel it was right to go and question what the fuck he was doing, so I kept my mouth shut. And true to form, not a god damned thing happened from 1030a-5p yesterday. I sat here and read through people's blogs.

Any chance of some training?

Submitted by soxfan2k4 on Fri, 12/01/2006 - 14:04.

So here I am at the end of the third week at the new job. Granted, last week was vacation, but nonetheless.......

At the end of the first week, my supervisor told me that she was "sorry that this week has been so hectic" Four email servers went down and stayed down for 6 hours my first day. "When you return from vacation, there will be more structured training for you. Just bear w. us this week" Well, thank god I finally got AIM installed on this machine

Came back from vacation Monday. No training. Nothing Tuesday, but she did say "Bear w. me today" Wednesday I finally received about 2 hours of something, before all hell broke loose again.

Worked for a big name corporation two months after getting my degree in CIS in May 2000. Discovered after a year and a half, that IT/helpdesk is not what I wanted to do anymore. I started searching deep w.in myself for my real passion and came up w. it.........

This past April, as I was slaving away at my fourth helpdesk job in less than six years, I found a school close to me that would allow me to pursue my dream. I applied and got accepted. Only one problem.... no night or weekend classes. I figure no problem, since the place I worked at ran 24/7/365; I would get my hours changed. Told my supervisor, and he said it wouldnt be a problem. This was June
