Pay check blunders now an exact science....

Last week, I reaped the rewards for all my hard work and I finally got paid. I was presented with the envelope, along with the pay check stub, and saw that they failed to pay me for a day that I had worked. Actually, they failed to pay a lot of people on that day, and the glorious administration claimed there was a computer glitch. (We have one of those horrible punch-in time clocks, only it is neither a clock and I can't punch it.
The only problem with claiming that my unpaid day of work was a screw-up on behalf of the time clock was that I was docked for being five minutes late, one day. I demonstrate my daily lack of intelligence by staying at that pit I call a job. Evem I know that if they can dock me five minutes worth of pay, then they should certainly know that they failed to pay me for a day! So, now, I have to fill out five forms to explain why I was late five minutes. I am still waiting for the money they owe.

Sometimes I copy my timecard when I make errors on it. Or if I get alot of overtime. So I don't get screwed.

It sounds like you are salaried, but are you? Do they pay O.T. when you punch out late? probably not. Spray some automobile trim adhesive into the works of the clock and Voila~! no more problems!

I would make that the payroll clerk pay for the error. Sneak into her office and reformat her hard drive. That might get her fired.

I have worked for employers who have mandatory unpaid overtime (50 to 60 hours). Had one employer say he would give $200 bonus for employee who worked most overtime in a month, the program was called "Bonus Hours". We the employees called this reward program BoneAss hours.

If you are on salary, just don't work the overtime... defacto raise on your part to compensate for no pay.

Hope you get your wages

worked in dot coms - various signs writing is on the wall:

1. not a computer glitch, especially if it happens more than 1 time
2. consecutive late checks? look for another job
3. cutting back on stupid stuff like coffee or something that should be rather petty (ie, you can even afford that thing...)
4. arguments over pay rules and stupid stuff like the 5 minutes to jutisty pay docks (b/c they can't pay or are that tight...)
5. ppl disappearing around you
6. managers that avoid responding to you - too often
7. long vacations of key managers - they're using up vacation time before they're on their way out...key managers are usually the first to see the signs. especially accounting
8. constantly changing schedules or ones w/o direction or cater too much to the venture capitalists and not to business objectives

I know that the time has come for me to get another job. The entire place has been in an uproar for the last year, and I am trying to have another job lined up before I leave this one, but I don't know if I want to wait that long. You have some good points, and they are valuable, but I respectfully submit there is a key difference. My job is in human services, and there's always going to be an industry of zoo-keepers to take care of society's throw-aways. I don't think the Dot-commers really have that any more.
