Tick Tock, Tick Tock...

The clock keeps on racing toward July 1st, 2005... the date on which I finally throw down the old nametag and hang up my kakhis one last time.

As I sit and write what I hope to be one of my final blogs, I ponder how this site has bled over into my real life.

There is a bagger who has become a good friend of mine. He keeps up with my blog, and every time a customer breaks one of my cardinal rules, he has to leave the register to avoid laughing... which usually sets me off as well. Theatrical experience is an excellent background for those who frequently have the need to keep a straight face.

On one occasion, one of my friends who knows me well enough to discover my online activities entered my store, grabbed ONE item, and approached my counter with the following monologue: "Hey, there. Working hard, or hardly working? These are donuts, by the way." (newcomers: check out my first blog, titled "I Know What the Hell an Onion Is")

Speaking of my first blog, archives say that it was posted July 26th, 2004... which places it twenty-five days short of a year before my exit... stage front.

And now, inspired by a wonderful suggestion by Timberwolf, I shall begin mentally compiling a list of ways to well and truly fuck with my customers and coworkers on my sure-to-be historic final day.

Tick... tock... maybe I'll write a book.

I won't say no to a party, but July 1st isn't the day. I'll explain in a brief blog.

I just read your first post - and I have to say - I am presently laughing my ass off! Very well written, I believe you should look into a writing career of some sort. Like many others, I've endured the hell that is grocery store cashier-ing... and I comletely sympathize. Further, good for you on getting out! I think you deserve a party, too... or at least to get a good, sloppy drunk going the day you leave... preferably while you're still working.

Good luck!!

I foresee myself being completely intoxicated by sheer freedom. I can already feel it now, especially in the light of recent news which I'll share in my next blog.

Actually, career-wise... the job that I got is in technology. It's parapro, so I don't consider it to be "permanent," just "quasi-long-term." My major in college was art. I have a passion for theatre, and obviously... I also enjoy writing.

I'm all over the place, but that's where I'm comfortable.

I think you are about the only one who can explain the frustrations involved in dealing with the public. Your sage wisdom will be missed.

Thank you... I'm honored that you said what you did. That is exactly the overall goal of my blog... to reach into the blind depths of customer-based frustration and pull it into the light for all to see.
