Started the New Job

So I started at the gun shop yesterday. Aside from being fairly boring (ok, really boring) it isn't such a bad job. I'm just having a little trouble adjusting to not being in a constant sprint. And not being a supervisor anymore. LOL!

But I'll tell you. It is really something special to work with a group of people who are actually intelligent. There isn't one person in there you could refer to as an honest to God dumbass. One might by obnoxious, but he isn't stupid, either. So this is a major change. I don't loathe, hate, despise, or even slightly dislike anyone I am calling a co-worker so far. Sure, only the second day, but this is a good sign.

I was handed a full hour off for lunch and had no idea what the fuck to do with it. It's been so long since I had a break, let alone an hour where you were expected to sit down and have a meal instead of maybe once a week getting something other than some pretzels and water for your one meal that day (if you got a meal at all, that is). Someone told me to slow down today, which blew my mind. People actually treat us like humans for once. At least most of them do. In two days I've only dealt with one customer who was a real bastard. Simply amazing. It's been seven years since I touched a cash register, so I am a bit slow. People are, for the most part, being patient. And I'm learning. I'll get up to speed soon enough.

So far my bosses are ok, too. My direct supervisor is awesome. The store manager is cool. The general manager is an actual human being. The president doesn't think he's better than everybody, or at least he doesn't flash it around (the man wore a headband all day today with bobbing snowmen on it, and let them take pictures of it, on top of that!). The senior range officer is weird as hell, but you gotta love a guy with a gun on one hip and a knife reaching down to his knee on the other.

I was told today they are even encouraged to wear shorts in the summer. Although I can't. Unless I want duct tape over my tattoos, of course.

So yeah. The pay sucks, it is a major cut from what I was making before. And the job is pretty boring. It has fast moments and slow moments. But I'm sure I'll have weird assed stories to tell from time to time. And I don't see myself having many personal issues with co-workers. So for right now, this is a decent spot to wind back down again and try to become a person again instead of an armored guard. And they are working on it. I've brought some armored guard habits with me, and they're trying to break me of them. LOL!

I think they're looking for a sales guy and a gunsmith. :)

It's great that you're enjoying it so far. It's hard trying to adjust sometimes, and even though it may be less money, you could laways do someting in the evenings or days off part time maybe?

Good luck with it though - I really hope it works out for you!

Just hope it stays that way. I deal with crushing boredom everyday...you get used to it.
