I hate my job

I work with students on a deadline.

That sentence in itself should be enough. Don't get me wrong. There are great students out there, those that know what it means to meet deadlines, get projects done on time, etc. Unfortunately there are also those that do not know or even care. These are the ones that I tend to get stuck with.

The student workers directly under me are great. I hire them & they're a great bunch. I've been told that I'm a great person to work for... I think it's because while they I know expect them to get the work done fast and efficiently, I also let them do their own thing when they have down time. It's the students that aren't directly under me that make my job unlikable (well them & the admin... but that's a completely different story).

Does the word deadline mean that something is to be done by a certain time? Or does it mean take your time and do it whenever because hey, who cares if *you* need to get something done, I just can't be bothered to do it on time? Apparently for some of them the second is the case. Unfortunately I can't do anything about it. I'm almost twice as old as these little pissers, yet I have to wait on them because I have no authority over there. Oh yeah, I'm the only full-time staffer that is here with them when the deadline comes screaming at me.
