And another thing - the American dream is a fucking nightmare

While we're on the subject of Americans and slavery (aka "jobs"), let me burst the bubble that is called the "American Dream." For those of you lucky enough not to live in the fascist US of A, the "American Dream" is the crock of shit they feed to you from birth that says if you "work hard enough, you can get ahead in life!" Also, the add-on to the "AD" is that if "you go to college and get a degree, you will be rewarded with high paying jobs and an upper-middle class lifestyle!"

False, false and false. Working hard has nothing to do with obtaining money and comfortable lifestyle. If so, why aren't all those chinese working hard in the rice pads or Nike factories all billionaires! On the flip side, why aren't all those non-working politicians living in mud huts scraping dirt to eat? Bah, because the American dream is shit someone thought up to keep the American worker in his/her place.

And what really gets me is the "American Dream 2" which says you must have a college education to make it here in the land of the free. Yup, I have 4 college degrees and I have been unemployed going on two years. Of course, since I quit my last job, I have chosen to stay unemployed rather than work for any place that is remotely like the places I have worked at in the last ten years (every place in the last ten years has been a hell-hole full of incompetent, back-stabbing, moronic seat sitters). Since I've gotten my degrees (broadcasting, library science, attorney), I am only qualified to work in shipping. Yes, that is correct, I am no longer qualified to be a librarian or attorney because I have "resume gaps" or HR says I get bored at jobs, oh and yes I'm not a "team player." So my last job consisted of me retrieving phone messages from people all day asking "where's my shipment?"

For all you people in college, I say enjoy the social community experience, because if you think you're going to work at a job which applies to your degree - good fucking luck! College has always only been for the rich kid, whose daddy senthim away for four years, and who has to employ the bastard in daddy's company when the kid barely pass college with the lauded degree in broadcasting.

I'm bitter, so what.

Napoleon - you have every right to be bitter. We all have chased this dream - at least those of us old enough to have seen the labor landscape change before our eyes. I am hanging onto a job that will soon be outsourced to India. Can't wait until they tell me to go home. Most of the people I work with are just Lemmings heading toward a big cliff - they will follow each other off the cliff, chasing the dream. Like you say, it's really a nightmare they can't wake up from. I'm awake and I don't like what I see.

...for the past 15 years to make that magical $38,000 a year that the American propoganda machine has stated that a college graduate with a bachelor's degree is guaranteed to earn in the good 'ol US of A.

The American Nightmare

God I feel your pain so much it hurts. Everything you say is sooooooooooooo true. I bought into the whole bullshit story. Graduated from college, sucked ass in corporate america and did really well until they decided they wanted younger, more educated kids that woould work for peanuts. I was treated like SHIT (like many of my older co-workers) so I fucking quit for a higher paying job. But the new piece of shit job was EVEN WORSE. I've never seen a larger group of stupid, sneaky, conniving, backstabbing fuckers (not to mention the asshole who was embezzling from the company). Everyone there got their high paying positions by blowing the boss.

So now, 3 jobs and numerous interviews from hell later I am working at a menial job and make no money BUT they pretty much leave me alone and don't make my life miserable. I leave right on time (if not early) every day and I do absolutely nothing extra for the job.

Now here's the kicker. I have a pension from my old corporate days but I figure by the time I'm old enough to collect it they will have figured out some way to fuck me out of it. The American Dream is indeed a FUCKING LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I strongly encourage everyone to cheat on their taxes, work as little as possible when you're at work and just look out for yourself because, believe me, no company gives a SHIT about you and basically the government does not either. Look how they treat old people.

As always, FIGHT THE POWER!!!!!!!!!!

Dude fuck trying get on the corporate ladder, its not for all of us. Only dicks with no life go up the ladder. The higher up the ladder you go the more sub human species you find.

Start a small business open a cookie mart, atleast you get all the profit to yourself (after tax).
