AmazingAs usual, come in at 4am...Start working along with another employee...The round of calls starts up at 4:30am (3rd employee shows up, tho late)...Calls are to make us aware that we will be shorthanded yet again...3 employees later (3 calls later, including the manager). In the meantime her boss shows up (a surprise visit), he is "again" amazed at the lack of bodies & makes the attempt to help out, inquiring where the manager is. He was told that she had to take her 18 yr old to school this morning. While he mumbled/grumbled about that, I stated that at least this time she didn't use the excuse that she had to stay with the 18 yr old because he has a fever. He leaves, calls her & lets her have it.(I was later told by her). We work completely understaffed. Lovely, still all is good. I can maintain a fast pace while keeping up moral by joking with co workers...We muddle through, smiles intact till 8am. A few more employees show, including the manager. Manager arrives to find that a delivery guy is ready to off load a ton of crap & she has to take care of it alone, the store is not looking it's best because costomer service was actually a priority. We try to ignore the comments of, "theres so much to do", things aren't being done quick enough, or my fav for the day...I have to do this or that alone with no help!!! Well, the world is my oyster, I pulled a pearl outta my arse for her. Told her that, it truly does suck that that the store is not spotless at the moment, but time to complain = time to clean, that if a few of us do not get side work done it will infact be left for her or someone else to tend to, cuz we leave at a certain time & won't be held accountable for those that don't show or simply decide to come in late, not our problem. I waited...Then added that you must at times work alone, so that employees who don't have issues getting dirty can take care of the work you won't actually do and by the way "these tomatos are mushy", I can make a salsa, but they aren't much good for anything else. I'll leave "em" here for you. Maybe I should just clock out since you don't need my punctual, working body here? Ahhh a bit of drama is indeed what is needed...A co worker stopped me shortly after, while I was singing a few made up tunes for her and told me that the manager was red faced & teary eyed, I verified this...I don't see why, I was polite, non offensive and smiling. Early on, I inquired why her 18 yr old doesn't ride the bus, I was told that she lives too close...(Hearing the drums), she added that she refuses to have him walk to school...WTF??? I have 3 daughters, all teens & was once again in dire need of saying "remove your tit from his mouth"!!!! I am sure that I will eventually have to imply the last statement somehow, or offer to follow her example of putting "family first", just to make my earlier point of "piss poor leadership" using all of her excuses to seal the deal. Ahhh, When in Rome? Maybe I'll just tell her that I actually "admire" the fact that she puts her family first & that I plan to follow her lead on maintaining each and everything that my 3 daughters need, family first right? lol...Hmmmm we shall see what this statement brings by the end of the mth. I am looking forward to either offering her a dose of her own or carefully balancing the mirror...Either way, I win... You're lucky you can talk to your boss this way, no wonder you tell others to do the same. Do you know most people would just get fired on the spot for doing so? I know most would get fired for speaking as I have, I completely support standing up for yourself. Sometimes, it doesn't take much, but generally you have to decide just how much you are willing to accept. I am currently speaking up for those around me that won't out of fear & not of being fired, just of how they are treated on the job. I have watched as co workers were humiliated on the job. So I address that. I am not concerned with being let go for speaking up. In my situation, this has actually gotten better, not worse over the last 2 mths. That alone is worth it. I completely understand the fear of being fired, I am no stranger to that worry. I no longer accept bad behavior in silence, this works for me. sandwichnazi That's great that you stand up for your fellow co-workers when they can't. Next time I need help, I'm gonna call you, ha,ha...Seriously, it is nice and refreshing that you care about how your co-workers are treated... :) Ok, ya got me blushing here lol...Really Thanks though...Oh yea, even the not so great employees...I do believe that there are those that can improve if given the option with better/fair treatment, of course depends on the situation & the person. I am sitting idle at the moment while at this job after declining a management spot, with the option of taking on a position to actually train managers in the future...A whole new can of worms and one that I am not entirely too sure about just yet, but even with that, the chance to ensure the very same ideals/goals regarding how employees should be treated...On here I vent along with everyone else, but mostly read...Poor treatment of employees is a virus spread all over, soley to consume. Since I am not able to "live off the land", I may be forever job hopping and that is ok lol... sandwichnazi |
