Your Papers Please!

Ok. So I'm applying for parttime jobs so that I can eat and still write my screenplays. Well, WTF, what is the deal with providing your social security number (aka national ID number for those not fortunate enough to live in the hell that is the USA) on the application? No fucking way! I barely provide that number to employers after I'm hired, I'm certainly not going to do it before.

Oh yes, I'm going to list my name, address, phone number, and SSN on a piece of paper and then give it to the gang-banger moron at the customer service desk, who can subsequently steal my identity. Screw it. It's not my problem that there are so many illegal aliens in this country that "we need to see your papers please!"

So I haven't been providing the national ID number on the application, instead I note that the number will be provided if hired. Gosh, for some reason I haven't gotten any calls to get a shit-ass job as a pump jockey, deli-meat slicer, or toilet bowl-swabber. I guess that is what happens when you live in a fascist country and don't present "your papers."

And I won't even address the credit checks, DNA samples and drug tests for applicants (not hires, applicants!). Jesus christ on a pogo stick, I guess I've just had it. I can no longer function in this world.

I recently applied for a part-time weekend job. I could not believe the paperwork. Application, references form, credit history form, background check form, release forms...two interviews, WTF?? Like an idiot I did it too.

I didn't have that many papers to fill out to buy a house. This to make $10.00 an hour, if they even deside to hire me? What will they ask for next a DNA sample? Fuck them.

We have a similar system here, only its called a SIN number (Social insurance number) I refuse to give that out under any circumstances. I have filled out applications in the past where it was always standard to ask for it. I left it blank. That is THE key piece of ID anyone needs to steal your identity here. As far as piss tests go, we have it a tad better here than USA, but are fast catching up. My company just published an employee handbook (finally) and the last page discusses urine testing for drug & alcohol abuse. They will have to kill me first. Our charter classifies this as harrassment primea facia and it is up to the employer to prove otherwise ie: just cause. I have nothing to hide but that is NOT the point.
I can't imagine being asked to provide this to a potential employer, that is insanity. OK if I was going to fly commercial airlines I could understand it, but to be a desk jockey, that is pure insanity and an outright invasion.
Our freedom is being taken away one piece at a time in North America.
No one really fights back, or at least not enough people to make a difference, probably too busy trying to survive or pay the mortgage, or send the kids to college, they have us right where they want us the dirty bastards.
