War Has Just Been Declared

If you've been reading my recent posts, you'll know that I recently voiced my concern to the bosses over the inequality around here. Newer employees are getting benefits that I never got, that weren't even available. When I raised my voice over the unfairness of it all, I was told to shut the fuck up.

Well, I had a performance review about two weeks ago. This was before my little talk to the bosses about fairness. In that review, I was rated as performing above the level expected of me. Yesterday, we all found out our percentage raises for this year.

I was surprised to hear the bosses tell me that I am overpaid, according to industry salary surveys, and due to this, I will only be getting a cost of living increase. I've been here 10 years, and this is the first time that I've gotten nothing except the cost of living. I don't consider cost of living to be a raise, since everyone gets that. I could have sucked the whole previous year and I still would've gotten that much.

Funny, the one time I complain to them, I get no raise. Not only that, they made a point of it to tell me I'm overpaid. Salary surveys didn't prevent them from giving me raises in previous years. Wonder what happened this year? And what was the point of the performance review where they tell me I'm performing at a level above expectations?

I'll tell you what happened. I decided to speak up. And I got screwed. I am so angry at this point. Mark my word, they will be sorry they ever fucked with me. It might not be today, or this year. But the day will come when they will wish they never hired me. You can bet my performance for this year will be at the level expected, maybe slightly below. My days of busting my balls for these bastards is officially over.

Fucking cock suckers.

That really stinks... I really feel for you. Its the type of crap that goes on here. I stand up for myself and say a few things and people decide they dont like you because you dont just sit there and get on with things like a god little employee should. They treat people like dogs - if they do what they're told they get a reward (rise) and if they dont they get fuck all.

You're actually not allowed to have an opinion any more, and if you do then you're supposed to keep it to yourself. God forbid you should EVER open your mouth to management...... you should do the absolute minimum required every day - even a little less because no-one will actually notice. You will get no more thanks for busting your balls than for sitting on your backside playing solitaire

Those salary survey excuses are fishy. Make them show you the basis for that 'salary survey' decision. Wonder if they can? Anyway, I have not gotten anything but a COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) since 2001. You are absolutely right about those, they don't really cover the true costs of living. Usually they're based on some government percentage point and don't take into account regional costs like higher rent. Anyway, hang in and use your feet if you have to.

but if you got cost of living, which looks like about 4%, you're doing okay. This is the second year in a row that I've received a glowing evaluation and a 2% raise. Not even cost of living. The price of gasoline goes up more each week than my salary did for an entire year. The bosses talk about how essential I am and how I make their jobs soooo much easier, but when push comes to shove, there's just not enough money allocated for decent raises. And this is no mom & pop outfit, either. It's a very large, 60,000+ employee company.

Our company designs their pay structure and annual increases to push emoployees out of pay grade levels rather than keeping the same job for years and years. The more you make in a given pay grade level, the less of an increase you're eligible for in a given year. I've been in this pay grade level for 5 years and have hit my ceiling, I guess. Luckily I'm getting the hell out in a few weeks.

You are exactly right. You found your spine and spoke up, and we can't have that. You're being put in your place. Find someplace else where your efforts are appreciated. If you can.

The increase was just a bit over 2%.

Every where else I have worked, reviews were done on your aniversary date. Where I am now, everyone is reviewed at the same time no matter what date you started. They call it pay for performance. I think it really takes the wind wind out of my sail because if everyone is getting a (very small) raise, you are not standing out as deserving of it. I like to feel that I earned a raise, not that it is something given to everyone like a dinner or something. The other day, my boss told me how well I was doing and that Pay for performance was coming in June. So what, you can tell everyone that, hardly a kudos.
