The Worst Thing About School

Our school systems are modeled after old prussian systems designed to break the individual and create good little soldiers/followers. From the age of 5 to at least 18, college 22, we're told what books to read, when to read them, what assignments to do, etc... it doesn't matter whether we're interested in the subject or not. We have little choice in the matter. We're also trained to look to our teacher's to determine whether we're right or wrong. It doesn't matter what our intuition, instinct, gut-feeling, or common-sense tells us, if teacher says we're right A, wrong F. School also trains us to think making mistakes are bad. You're penalized for every mistake FFFFF.

The real world isn't a nice little controlled environment where one person can validate or invalidate your thoughts/actions. There's shit coming at you from all directions with many people trying to validate/invalidate you. Most of the time you're going through uncharted waters where everyone pretends to know whats going on but they don't. If you look to them for the correct answer, as school trains us, they'll fuck you up the ass. This is where we need our intuition/instinct/common-sense but they're extremely underdeveloped from years of little use. We also need to be able to make mistakes and try new ideas to learn and grow, but school ingrains in us a fear of mistakes.

In addition to being a screwed up system, it also seems to attract a strange breed of people. Don't get me wrong. I've had some excellent teachers but they were few and far between. In my current job, I also work with many teachers and it is beyond me how they ever got into a classroom! If reading from a textbook or lecture notes is called teaching these days... I often have to explain some of the simplest, most basic directions over and over to some of these people in order to get what I need from them to do my job. I might as well work in a group home - the IQ would be higher. I can't imagine people paying tuition fees for that caliber of instruction.

The worst thing about school is they brainwash you into thinking that if you work hard and do as you are told you will be be rewarded.
I worked hard and always did as I was told. My reward was fifteen years of getting fucked in the ass.
