I hate corporate America the hate of Corporate America Rantyes you read it right..i hate Corporate America, especially those moronic, half brained CEOs...im sick of having to suck up and completely show a false face at an interview for a corporation just to get a job....no i dont like having to deal with politics and brown nosing, i would like to get a position based on what i can bring to the table not based on how much i can suck up to the boss. i really wish i could tell them all off and show them the door, but i digress. these Managers and what not must really get their kicks from seeing their employees work for little to nothing while the heads of companies get expense accounts private jets and the like. well i for one have had it....i think ill go for Civil Service positions, something where at least my knowledge will be appreciated and i know the work i will be doing is going to be going toward the public good. Slack-Jawed Response While they rambled on and asked me the same questions over and over, I finally said "you know what, not only are you interviewing me, but I am interviewing you also to see if I want to work here." Boy, you should have seen the slack-jaws from that comment. They looked at me like I had just killed a puppy. Then to follow up that heresy, I said "oh, I should have told you sooner, I can guarantee you that I will not be working here in five years. So if you want someone who is going to sit in his or her seat for twenty years, hire someone else." Wham! They looked like someone had swiped them across their wide-open slacked jaws. I believe they had never heard someone say that EVER in their lives. The room went silent. I then turned to the Director man and asked him "so what do you think of someone who likes to come in do a good job, automate things, and then leave before five years? Most people have a problem with that, do you?" He hemmed and hawed and said in a slow slack-jawed sort of way "well ... I can see your point ... maybe you outgrow the company ... blah ... blah ... blah." At that point the interview was over for me, I knew I didn't want to work there. See, I want to work someplace where the people say "hell yes! everyone should be moving on to new and exciting things after a few years!" I want to work someplace where there is enthusiasm, and intelligence and creativity, and people leaving and new people coming. That's what I want. I don't want slack-jaws, I don't want seat-sitters, I don't want workplace fiefdomers. I will never find that place. I will have to create that place myself, I know that. I'm trying, I really am ... Napoleon » napoleon's blog yea i agree. it looks as if i might have to find out my ideal position myself And I quote: "i think ill go for Civil Service positions, something where at least my knowledge will be appreciated and i know the work i will be doing is going to be going toward the public good." Please, please, please... don't expect your knowledge or skills to be appreciated in the civil service. It's the last place you will ever find appreciation and acknowledgement of your skills and talent. I know...I've been in "civil service" for nearly 20 years! oh i hear you now...i should know about bureaucratic red tape..im in a city full of it...i mean i ve taken civil service tests and it takes them 6 or so months to mail back the results....its ridiculous...but it has to be better than corporate brown nosing because at least wit civil service you get holidays and what not off right? plus good pay and things? whats the solution to this madness? slave away in Corporate snake pits? The pay is good depending on what job you have and yes you do get holidays. I've got quite a few vacation weeks earned after 2 decades of paying my dues, but guess what, this is the 4th time I've postponed my vacation since March because some last minute shit gets dumped on me or someone screws up. Civil or corporate - I think both suck equally. It isn't the sector, it's the nature of work that encourages power tripping and making money, and attracts psychopaths into positions of management. And working for yourself? I also freelance and clients are no picnic. Demanding, don't know what they want, don't pay their bills, want everything for nothing. Job satisfaction is an exception to the rule. Satisfaction has to be found outside of work. As always, just my opinion. i hear you on finding satisfaction outside of work.... i cant stand the prospect of having to do the stupidest of work though, i mean everytime i go to this job or this one, i can feel my self just about to break down from stress and cry, or go crazy....i mean i cant stand doing the stupidest of things just to get a paycheck....i keep thinking, why did i go to college? i mean what tha f? im smarter than most of these people at these positions here, but no one wants to give me a chance unless i got experience, and if i do get a chance, its doing the stupidest and most mundane work possible that it just disgusts me. to Tell Corporate America what it can do with its jobs...we need to tell them where they can shove their crappy salaries, their 2 week vacations and all of this...we also need to tell them to stop paying CEOs these absurd salaries while the bottom half of workers struggle to get by. no longer can we tell our kids that the way to success is a big front office..no the way to success is doing what makes you happy and if that means quitting school and joining a rock band then so be it.... Check out my previous blogs. I HATE CORPORATE AMERICA. I really do. I am really learning that business ownership is the only way to go...fuck climbing someone else's ladder...create your own! I went to a MLM seminar last night and while I don't think that business is for me, I took away from that meeting some value information about JOBS (jail operated as a business or just over broke)...these corporations don't give a fuck about you, so why should you give a fuck about them? Find your passion/purpose in life (we all have one) and the money will come. I've been seriously considering just quitting (job lined up or not) and stepping out on faith. It'll be scary at first, but the thought of being a slave to a cube and BS paycheck for the next 5 years makes me sick to my stomach. Sometimes you just have to hit the ground running and know that everything will be okay. You will only be as wealthy (financially, spiritually, etc.) as your five closest friends...so consider who you spend your time with, they will help to determine how far you go in life. I bet a zillion people doubted Bill Gates 20 years ago, but who's laughing now?! FUCK CORPORATE AMERICA! |
