I spent 1 1/2 years in a call center, and the last 6 months of it were hell while I was looking for a new job. EVERYBODY (including the call center manager) knew I was looking. I hated every minute of it.

Frankly, the "we have a few more interviews" is just a typical line of bullshit everybody uses. Maybe they do have more interviews. Hell I was once told that and I was hired on the spot.

Don't know what you are looking for, but for me, I just send out my resume and let them contact me. I don't go out of my way at all. I figure, if they want me there, THEY will call and offer a job. I had one dude who saw my resume, I went to his web site, and the business looked like a small startup with limited finances. He asked me a lot of unix questions, and I could tell he was just blowing smoke up my ass for no reason. I also got a STRONG impression that he didn't know what he was doing. I probably would have accepted an offer, but I blew it off. The next week I emailed him and he said "we made an offer to another candidate, good luck in your efforts!" Nice way of basically saying fuck you.

For me, DURING the interview, I ask all kinds of questions. Maybe I don't want to work there. Is this a call center? If the question is avoided or they give me some bullshit answer, I don't want the job. What EXACTLY will by my duties? Multiply that by 2. If they tell you exactly, I guarantee more shit will be added.

If they want someone will skills in every category, what is the pay? "How much do you want?" Probably more than you can afford. I remember one job description, they basically wanted godlike skills. I told them the MINIMUM I would take the job for was $20/hr. I knew I wouldn't get it because they wanted someone to work for about $12.

I don't fuck around and as much as they want me to basically beg for the job and prove why I'm good enough, fuck you, prove to me why I should bring my skills and knowledge here? "This is a fun place to work". Are you going to be honest and say the last person left because he hated you assholes?

I never write thank you letters, I don't kiss ass, and I don't beg for any position. I'm not am asshole during the interview, but I pick apart EVERYTHING they say. I also watch how they act towards me.

Earlier this year I had an interview for GE Healthcare. Turns out it was a call center which is exactly what I said I DIDN'T want. 5 people interviewed me, 1 on conference call. During the interrogation, 2 of them completely acted like I was wasting their gaming time. Reading from scripts, asking me bullshit questions like " What do you consider your greatest ability ?" Well, I would say dealing with monotone assholes like yourself.

I was 10 minutes into the interview and knew that NOTHING in the world would make me want to work there. They clearly didn't give a fuck.

When a recruiter sends off my resume, whether to HP, Microsoft, Intel, really any high tech company, I don't even follow it up. If they are interested in me, I will get a call.
