I hate my job

Hello, this is my first time here. I just need to express how much I hate my job. I am a contract worker for a large company. I only I enough work to keep me busy for about 4 hours a week. So I try to stretch it out for longer. All day long I surf the internet, but that is getting so boring. I have to drive approximately 30 miles each way to do nothing all day. I have been doing this for about 1 1/2 years. There are times when I am busy, but that has not happen in months. The reason I do stay is that I get paid very well, and my contract ends in December, and then hopefully I can get unemployment until I find something that I enjoy doing. My contract was suppose to end in July and they extended it. I am hoping that they don't extend it again. Also, at this company everybody pretty much keeps to them selfs. There are days that I do not have any interaction with anyone. Sometimes, I just want to scream.

I used to have a contract job like that. The contract house kept bugging me about increasing my "billable hours". Me, I was so bored I couldn't be less interested. I ended up quitting my "contract" because they wouldn't lay me off. Best thing I ever did.

Watch out for yourself when dealing with contract agencies. 'Nuff said.

I worked a consulting job like this - but I got another consulting gig (I was doing writing at the time) and just about doubled my salary - doing work for the second job at the first consulting job.

I have a job now where it's balls to the wall every day and would love, love, love some downtime. How discreet do you have to be about your loafing? If you don't have to be too discreet about what you're doing, I'd start doing all of those personal things you put off - like balancing your checkbook, buying birthday presents, planning a vacation, etc. Make personal phone calls for all of your personal business. See all of this downtime as an opportunity to get some stuff done.

Thank you for your comments. I have been waiting to be laid off for a long time. At first it was a 6 month contract and they extended it for another 6 months, and they did it again and again. I would love to quit, but I need to have some type of income.

All I do at work is do personal stuff. Sometimes I just leave in the middle of the day and go shopping or do some erands or go for long walks. I have done all of this for so long, that I am just sick of it all. I don't even want to go shopping anymore. I just need to get away from there for awhile.

You said you surf the Internet all day long.

You can put your time to better use. And not all day long.

If you are really SERIOUS read previous blog on My Sucky Job!

You might be sitting at home instead of your car!

I can surf the net all day, hang on chat sites, trade stocks for extra income....goddam, this would be perfect for me. Care to disclose the location of this job?

You need to check out My Sucky Job! blog.

Surfing the net all day, hanging on chat sites, etc. is a waste of your talents. This is perfect for you. If you aren't making money at your shit job, make it elsewhere.

This won't work unless you are SERIOUS. It all starts with hating your fucking job.....you then take it from there.

As yourself....do you want to do this for the rest of your life? I didn't think so. I was in your shoes, and Oh, my God....no more fucky boss, stupid idiots at work, and no more shit paychecks.

You sound enthusiatic and smart....don't waste time. You know what you have to do, so do it!
