Job recruiters

I just don't get this shit. My resume has been out on craigslist (and a few other places) for ages. It is pretty clear what I am capable of. I can't list everything I do because that would fill a book, so I have a 3 page resume. It has become obvious that recruiters DON'T FUCKING READ because I consistently will have them send a job description for shit not listed on my resume.

For example, if you read a resume of a plumber, would you contact him about dry wall? Probably not. How about an auto mechanic? He MUST know how to fix aircraft engine because he's a mechanic. What the fuck?

To top it off, I then am asked for a pay scale. In other words, what is the least they can pay me? How about this, why don't you tell me how much the job pays first?

Most recruiters I have dealt with are just fucking ignorant. They don't read resumes, they do keyword searches only. Usually I get sent an email asking if I want some job that I don't have the skills for, or something that is not my specialty.

Although last week I sent a nasty ass email to some wench recruiter who was clearly not American. Not only was her grammer fucking shit, her proposal was completely unprofessional. Now knowing that English is not her first, second, third, or fourth language, what is the fucking possibility that she can help me find a decent job? I told her that since her grammer sucks ass, it is obvious she is not a professional and I can not depend on her.

Not all recruiters are bad, but most are. Get a body, fill a job, pay us a few bucks for a mindless fucking job that most people don't want. I am so damn tired of getting proposals for shit I say I am NOT interested in, or they assume that since I'm a system administrator that MUST mean that I also possess a degree in electronics engineering. Yes, I actually have seen that one before. "You are good with computers? Great, I have a job masking and etching circuit boards and I need someone who knows oscilloscopes, can read schematics, and understands voltages." If you look up the definition of a system administrator, where the fuck does it say electronics engineer?

But these fuckwads just assume there is all kinds of cool shit that I just FORGOT to put in my resume. I would think that if I had excellent skills outside of this, I would fucking list them. Putting dishwashing on your resume, ok I can see why that isn't helpful, but if you have a great secondary skill, wouldn't that be common sense to include? Apparently not to a recruiter. If they don't see on it your resume, you probably have it.

I seriously don't know why they even read any resume. Most of the bullshit job proposals they send have little to nothing to do with your actual skill.

Unfortunately, in my field, I pretty much have to use these retards. Most high tech companies use staffing agencies to "weed out unqualified candidates", YET the bulk of who they send over for interviews are unqualified anyway.

I finally just quit replying to most of the proposals I get. If they aren't going to the time and read my resume, why should I read their proposal?

You've probably already thought of this, but I have sent 1 page resume's myself via email to all kinds of tech jobs when I was looking. I didn't bother to check to see if they were hiring or not. A lot of them liked my tenacity and said it showed that I really was serious about working. Anyway, it was just a thought, couldn't hurt :). I never have liked recruiters, they have never found a job for me. Usually it is because they don't have tech skills, therefore can't understand what your capable of.

That's actually a good idea...sending resumes to companies for positions that aren't open might help. If you have a conversation with one of the HR people and it goes well, you may actually come out on top. Who knows. Think of it as cold-calling for sales.

I have sent my resume to a few places that I didn't think were hiring, but never a mass mailing.

You are right that most recruiters don't know the field, or understand technical skills. I had have places that claim they only staff for "IT professionals", yet the job description is not clear. Next they ask me if I have any major skills not listed in my resume. Ok, the keywords MAJOR and NOT LISTED piss me off. As I said before, if I were an EE or ET, don't ya think I would mention it?

Maybe I should get a list of high tech companies around me and shoot my resume to their HR people. At least then I won't have to deal with some jackass recruiter who doesn't know what my resume means, but they have a great CALL CENTER JOB! Fuck you.

I just met a chick who works in a call center. I sympathize. To date I have worked for 3 of them. NEVER again.

As for recruiters though, I have had a few of them get me a decent job, but nothing outstanding. My last 3 jobs were all from recruiter. One of them being a call center, but I knew a few people who worked there, so I was basically given it without trying. The last one I got fucked by the company. The rumors were that they are seriously cutthroat and ditch anybody they have a difference of opinion with. That's what they did to me. This new job was easy to get. But I don't think I will be using the bulk of my skills.

Maybe it is time to shoot my resume all over town.

A friend of mine is a computer programmer. He found out about this great company and at the time was looking for an internship to complete his MBA. He wrote to the President of the company directly and gave lots of specifics as to why he wanted to work there, and why they should hire him as an intern.

The President called him personally, and he got the intern. He did well there, and he got hired as a fulltime person once he graduated. He is convinced that it was the approach that he took that led to his success.

I've never tried this (maybe I should my job sucks!) but it worked for my friend. Good luck!
