want to get out

I just posted my resume on three online job search sites. Has anybody ever found a job on these sites or are they a playground for recruters? I've had no luck on my own, anyway. I need to get out of where I am. The years went by and I never got anywhere. Things went from bad to worse then the worse got even worser. (Not a word, I know, but its the truth). I try to be optimistic but my optimism had faded. I'm getting depressed now. Favoritism has no place in the workplace. It hurts good people.

I've gotten two jobs off job board site BUT it is a big time playground for recruiters.

The jobs I've gotten were ones that I applied to where I had a very close fit to what they wanted. Do not expect employers to contact you because they won't.

To get a job off of a job board, etc. is a long shot. During the summer I posted my resume, etc. looking for a new job. I am qualified and posted my resume all over the net. Think of a board and my resume is there. I was contacted by two recruiting firms. Now, I eventually took a job through one of these firms and consider myself lucky. While I didn't get a ton of offers, I did get a ton of spam. (I created a bogus email account for this reason and it receives about 300 pieces of spam a DAY.)
Networking (Knowing someone) and non-stop aggressive ground pounding will get you a job much quicker than the job boards.
I wish you the best.

I just commented on another person's site about this, so I'm reposting here for you:

I have used on-line sites before as well and gotten a couple of interviews; I think my luck though was not going through a big HR firewall (online application process) but there was an email or fax to a specific person/number.

Last year when I was job searching I re-did my resume in the "Skills Based Format" and really had good luck with it. I also re-did my husbands resume (standard format) and he got good responses also. Nowadays there are so many bad resumes that to actually have a concise format and grammar stands out. Also, I sent resumes old-style in the mail to construction departments and actually got an interview at Trammell Crow. TC is one of the "big dog" real estate firms around here. I'm assuming my resume was the factor becuase it was like cold calling.

I can send you some Skills based formatting tips if you would like. Also try sending your resume in the mail with nice paper and envelopes. People appreciate paper sometimes.
