UnappreciatedI work in a stupid restaurant. The customers are stupid. The rest of the staff are moronic idiots. I'm dead serious (and seriously not being egotistic when I say this), that I'm the only one there who doesn't suck at this job. My job is to be on the cash register, and if I'm free to, to take out food and wipe down tables. Then usually there are the managers who will help take out food, and then there are the cooks. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. Every single person there is a fucking moron. The managers are lazy as hell (maybe with the exception of one, but he's starting to get on my nerves). We're *always* out of something, because the general manager is so fucking lazy, that he doesn't make the right orders for when we need things shipped to us. There are three other girls who have my position. They're all treated better because they're girls, and all the managers are guys. I get all the shit placed on me. Seriously. One of them, she is the most recently hired. She takes naps on the job, she dances, and just in general is very bad. The other one, who was hired the same time as me, is horrible. She's so lazy. She thinks she's great at the job, and keeps wondering why she isn't employee of the month. She is inconsiderate of others, doesn't use common sense, and she always tries to switch days with me. And the decent one of those three, can only work weekends now. Seriously sucks. We have to keep the bathrooms and dining area clean. Well, I'm the only one who does it. When I don't work, and come back for my shifts, the bathrooms look like absolute shit. I'm seriously the only person who mops the floors in there, and pretty much cleans it. The other girls are so lazy! And the dining area looks horrible when I come back. Nobody wipes down the seats and booths, or tables, or cleans the floors, or changes the garbages, or does anything to even be considerate to help me out. I do it for them... The drink station is shit. Nobody refills the ice, which is a pain in the ass to refill, and guess who gets to lug all the ice into it? Me. Guess who gets to clean up all the tea that spilled when "somebody forgot to clean it".. Me. Guess who gets to make the lemonade when "somebody can't lift it". Me. GAH! I seriously hate it there. I don't know why I've quit yet. I might quit when I turn 18, so I can work in a real restaurant, where people actually work together. To add on, the only holiday I've had off this year was Christmas day (the one day they're closed), and Xmas eve. We don't even get anything extra for being forced to work holidays. The whole corporation sucks ass. The higher ups probably have never even been into one of these restaurants. It's all down to us who actually work in them, and we get paid shit. After 15 months of working there, I've gone from $6.50 an hour to $6.75 an hour. I HATE it! And everybody there is just so stupid. I hate customers. I used to be so nice to them. But now I just don't care. I've given up on the people that eat at this restaurant, because they're all the same: they want things right away, and are very rude about it. They interrupt me when I'm on the register by cutting in line, or stealing coupons and cups right in front of me. They assume that I'm some stupid teenager who doesn't know what he's doing, but you know the fuck what? I do, and I'm doing it a helluva a lot better than them! Before I quit, I might even just lose my frustration I've been bottling up on someone, or even one of the other employees. It'll be fun to see. And then the manager who does the schedule gets pissed at me because I can't work Tuesday nights anymore for 2 months. Why? Because I'm taking ACT prep classes after school and can't work Tuesday nights. So he gets pissed at me because I'm doing something for school, when there's three other fucking girls who can fucking work that night. I'm so unappreciated there. ...but I'm afraid all restaurants are like that with few exceptions, and those are only by accident. I have friends where I work, but only because at this job, as opposed to the jobs before, I did not go out of my way to please everybody and, when confronted, I gave a well-reasoned answer without whining, throwing a temper tantrum, or even raising my voice. Because of this people nobody tries to throw their work off on me. You would be surprised what people will do when they are actually held accountable. I'm sure you recognize that few tasks in any restaurant require more than a few minutes to complete, so if you do them at the beginning of your shift and get ahead of the game, all you have to do then is worry about your customer service. If you're on top of your game there, nothing your co-workers can say will matter. Don't think I'm trying to lecture you, nor am I accusing you of whining, but those can be a pitfall that's too easy to fall into. Restaurant jobs are easy if you tune out the bullshit and focus on what's important: your own bottom line. hey, what restaurant is it? i work at carrabbas and that place is the bomb- in fact, the owner even hired a lady to roll all the silverware so wait staff never has to! but its all about management because if noone is doing work its because they arent being made to do it- u need to stop doing that shit and come work with us at the italian grill! |
