Fuck this Job Bitch...FUCK THIS JOBFuck...this is not why I became an engineer. My group is run by a bunch of screwoffs and fuckups that don't even know how to run a damn computer. In 18 mnonths I was already promoted to senior staff right out of collge!! That is how fucked up it is! Now i've lost all my goddamn skill sets to get out of this nightmare and am goddamn trapped here. I keep applying somewhere else but no one wants to hire someone with a fucked up background from my job,. Awesome GPA and nothing to show for it...fucked up my life because I got duped and fell for what sounded cool but was in peril of being closed down before I got hired. Best part was, despite the crap I deal with my boss...who is just discovering microsoft projects like it was invented yesterday, is his ass backwards way of design. Refusing to know anything about the tools i work with and has no idea what it takes to build anything. Wow. fuckin girl left me for some dick-weed that makes 1/3 as much but looks hotter. Fuck this job bitch..and FUCK THE WORLD congrats universe, you win. Always good to get pissed on sunday night, makes Monday go worse. Damn state outlaws alcohol sales...but i stocks up damn good for shit days like this. Bitches Hell, look on the bright side. You got promoted. I wish I'd get promoted but at this point in my life promotion means nothing. Anyways, it does sound like a screwball operation like you said. If your engineering firm can't figure out how to use computers, you got a problem there. Hell, I ain't an engineer and even I can figure out that computers make that job somewhat easier. :p Also, what state bans alcohol sales? I'm guessing it's in the south given how their kind thinks. I'd leave that area if they told me I can't have liquor. Xstate You too can join the ranks of government... You are qualified. Since you allready have Project Managment experience you would be qualified. The government distains techy experience so I would down play any computer science/engineering experience. Don't fill out anything on the application to your gov job about race if it asks you, unless you think it will help. Mr. Plankton I don't know, MrPlankton. I, too, used to believe that once you get a job with government, you're set. Perhaps that stands true for the federal government. At the county and municipal levels, however, I've found that project managers end up having to provide leadership to contractors who are making twice or even three-times what they make, yet these PM's are the ones doing most of the work. I have a friend who is a PM for a local municipality's capital improvement department, and he talks about this constantly. Also, he tells me how grant-writing responsibilities are pushed-off on him yet he doesn't get the 10% cut that the Grant Office gets. What's more? An increasing number of government agencies are outsourcing services and everyday functions because they do not want to deal with HR issues, such as, benefits and insurance. I currently work in government, and the atmosphere has become just as cut-throat and anxious as any private entity's. Finally, all my friends and family who work with some government/public entity got that job by virtue of knowing someone. With the exception of my brother, who is a school teacher, everyone government-worker I know personally had to be recommended for the job they are currently in. This means, essentially, that applying off the street with no connections puts you at a disadvantage. These days, to procure government positions, it is IMPERATIVE that you know someone from the inside. Otherwise, you do not stand a chance. MrPlankton, you must live near me cause I live very close to DC, born and raised. I've seen those PMP job listings. And the pay is around 80-120k a year. I never thought of not mentioning techy experience when applying for government jobs but the more I think about it- it makes sense. GPO (Government Printing Office) is so ass backwards when it pertains to electronic imaging. You are also correct in the race thing. Women and minorities have the edge even without extensive experience. That is a fact hands down. JMK: I am Black, and I work in a Cuban-American-dominated segment of our society, and a trend that I see spreading like wild fire throughout the crazy world of municipal and county governments is "internal position creation". This used to be wide-spread in the private sector, but it's all the rage in the public sector, as well. Here is how it works: Say you are a manager of a department, and you have a worker under you, who is cool and whom you are friends with, but you believe that she should be in a better-paying position. All you have to do is pay a visit to the H.R. department and do a proposal and create some ridiculous position for your subordinate (this works, particularly if you know the H.R. manager on a personal level and you have a pretty decent budget). By law (for most municipalities anyway), the position has to be posted publically, but what the unsuspecting "man-from-the-street" applicant doesn't know is that your subordinate WILL get the position and all the interviewing and crap that the other applicants are put through are just formalities. This is done, knowing full well that they never stood a chance. When I heard about this, I was so demoralized that I almost called-in sick the next day. It really saddened me that entities were taking part in such horrible H.R. practices. Finally, you know what's killing this country, if not the world? It's dishonesty and greed. Everything that has gone wrong with this nation stems from those two traits. My husband works for a municipality, has worked there forever. If I wanted a job with the municipality I'd just have to wait until basically anything I like is posted and my husband could get me that job. Its not what you know or whether you went to college. ITS WHO YOU KNOW. Its sucks and its not fair. Oh yea, the part about positions being created and filled by in-house people, that shit happens all the time. I bet a full 50% of jobs posted are just EEO postings, the company has no intention of hiring an outside person, they are just doing they due diligence -- FUCKERS. citizen477, yes, I've encountered these already filled jobs many times. |
