Even Gov't-Funded CEO's Succumb to Corruption

We've heard about the Enrons, the Worldcoms, and the Haliburtons and how their CEO's made out with obscene amounts in salaries and compensation, but the Smithsonian?

The Smithsonian is a wonderful network of museums, zoos and research facilities that offer a wonderful service to our country, but to have it's chancellor, currently Lawrence Small, making close to $900,000 a year with additional unauthorized expenses of up to $2 million is absolutely absurd and is a tell-tale sign that our country is really heading downward.

What makes this even more egregious is that he had the audacity to tell his middle and lower staff to help keep operating costs low by turning off lights in hallways, finding ways to consolidate long-distance phone calls and so on. There were reports in the Washington Post on how several of the 18 museums under his jurisdiction are grossly under-staffed and under-maintained. In fact, the Museum of Aerospace & Science has holes in the ceiling. At the National Zoo, patrons complain about super long lines and the lack of tour guides. All this occurring, while this bastard is charging the tax-payer $15,000 to replace the french doors at his home, $5,000 for limo drivers, and the bill keeps edging up and up and up.

So many regular Americans can't even find decent work that properly compensates them for what they're worth, and this bastard, who--by the way--made close to $4 million dollars (including compensation packages) during his tenure at Fannie Mae, is making out like a bandit. This sickens me because it's one thing when CEO's of private firms screw us over, but to have a government entity doing this is just beyond me!

Man that is scary. I knew there were these shenanigans going on but the Smithsonian?

I give this country 10 years, max.

the rich always stole the most, cheated the most, and lied the most. That is how they got wealthy. Did you ever hear of a good, nice, honest person being wealthy? no such thing. They have connections and most don't get caught. Only if they piss off somebody big that their shit comes out in the open. Fraud and corruption everywhere unfortunately. Fucking shit.
