Boss Senses I'm Leaving, Now Treating Me DifferentlyWell, I was offered the new job I interviewed for. The president of that particular campus where I'll be working seems to like me and my ideas a lot, so that was a pleasant interview, and I was also relieved, as it was the last interview in the whole process. Now, I'm simply waiting for the salary negotiations to begin. The issue is with my current job. I'm going to be turning in my resignation this week. The thing is, I think my immediate supervisor knows that I'm leaving. I believe she has sensed it, and she's starting to treat me differently. For example, she does not respond to me when offer saluations like "Good morning" and so on. She shoves stuff to me, rather than hands them. Everything is a problem and must be "changed" or "corrected". I really don't need this shit, but as soon as I negotiate my salary on my new job, I'm going to print my resignation letter on marigold paper and in 17" font, come in early and leave it on her desk! And she can do with it what she may. I'm also going to send a "regular" copy to H.R. to make sure that they understand that I'm leaving on good terms. I really hope that the salary negotiations go well because I have had it with working city government. Though I studied public administration, I did not fathom that working for a public entity could be so unnerving and absolutely boring and unfulfilling. I volunteered in government before, and it was such a positive experience. I don't know what happened, but I'm out, and I'm happy. I'm going to be working in Academia again, and I can't wait! Congrats on the new job - I hope they treat you well and that you've found a position that works for you. Also, good luck with the negotiations...be firm, play hardball! Or whatever works. One of my friends is about to leave our workplace and has run into similar problems. One of the people she provides office support for gave her a lemon tree for her new house one week. When she resigned a week later he instantly grew cold and started treating her differently. I understand the disappointment with losing a good employee, but why punish them? Makes no sense. At least your manager's "true colors" showed up while you're on your way out! |
