I'm Not Suppossed to Feel Sorry for Them!

I haven't been on in ages. And this entry is really only going to make sense to anyone who remembers me from when I worked as an armored transport guard. But enjoy anyway!

Wow. Made a major discovery this morning on the way to work and just confirmed it a few minutes ago. For those of you who remember this far back, armored company one (the first armored transport place I worked for) was about two miles from my house. When I go to work in the morning I often see their trucks leaving for the day.

Anyway, haven't really seen any in a while since when I leave for work in the morning it is late for them to be leaving. But I saw my old box van come around the corner and blow up the road towards the highway. I ended up behind them at a light and had a laugh that the "ATM is down" signs were still in the back window after all this time. I also noticed the truck number was very different, but I recognized the truck as being the exact one I had driven a few years ago.

So they turn onto the highway and that's when I saw it. In big red letters on the side... another name.

Armored company one doesn't exist anymore.

I found out for sure this evening by visiting the site of the company whose name was on the truck. I know the company, they're well known (no, it isn't Loomis, but I would have pissed myself laughing if it had been).

My first thought, of course, was, "Now what the fuck do I do about job applications?!" If they call them looking to confirm my employment and find out it is a different company with no trace of me in their records I'm screwed. But I decided I am just going to change my resume to say they are a different company now.

Then I wondered about the few hangers on I had worked with. There weren't many. Honestly, I'm not sure if there are any at this point. I know they had fired Bear not too long ago and he's now employed at the local Wally-World. Which pissed me off, because Bear's loss of employment and then having been forced to take a minimum wage job actually put him on the street. Yes, you heard me right, my good friend Bear and his wife with severe mental problems and a severe breathing disorder are homeless. Thankfully her mom took them in, but she doesn't like Bear or their daughter, so his daughter is living with friends and is actually working on a farm to get by. Imagine that.

Anyway, I digress. I felt bad for the people working there for all of five seconds. Then I realized this is probably the best thing that could have happened to them. Granted, this particular company is shit and they were probably all knocked down to part time (which this company does to all of its employees, only they work the same insane hours, just without medical benefits). However, they'll probably get raises when they are due and maybe even get issued guns that function. They might even get *gasp* bullet resistant vests! I know they won't be working 20 hour days anymore. The hours won't be great, but they won't be doing that pull in from one route, never go home, just get on the truck and start the next day's route thing again. And they won't get called in on their days off to go three hours away to dump $10,000 in an ATM at the beach in the middle of the summer, either. AND they will have spare trucks... meaning they can actually make repairs when trucks get sick and maybe they won't get stranded for several hours in the middle of nowhere. The list goes on.

But, apparently, it is the end of an era. Armored company one has died and is but a memory. Can't say I'm sorry to see them go. Couldn't have happened to a better company.

Hey what's up? Hadn't heard from you in a minute! Guess what? I'm out of the pizza business for good! I got a better job in file custody at a big financial services company through a temp agency. I know, you always hear horror stories about being a temp, but I've really enjoyed myself. Anyway, as much as I like talking about myself, what's going on with u?

Hey there you! Not a whole lot. I'm still at the gun shop right now. I haven't posted in ages because the boss spends time online looking for this stuff. LOL! He's actually found a few people now. So I just don't bother writing anything about it, it ain't worth it. Otherwise, same shit different day. :)

I can't believe you remember me! I'm too modest to think I stand out that much.

I sure remember you.

About job applications with your last company gone. All you have to do is find somebody or a few people who you used to work with that can "verify" that you worked there. You put THEM on the application. They will call them and you'll be all set.

I wondered about that too twenty years ago and a manager of mine gave that as the solution.

Hey! Glad to see you're still around! Well, the only person I am in contact with from that place even slightly is Bear. There is one guy who could probably be of assistance when I go out for the PD if I can find him, but I'm not sure he remembers me anymore. I'll give it a go, though! I appreciate it!

Company A was bought by Loomis and canned me with a form letter because my availability wasn't 24/7 for a P/T job. The letter said I was too low on the seniority list. That was a bunch of crap since I trained most of the people they have currently. Oh well, I'm glad I'm gone. A friend of mine took my position and says the new management is more screwed than ever.

Anyway, I am not on since I have a job I like now. Nothing much to complain about with much higher pay and liberal management.

Good luck to everyone.
