All I want is a fucking decent computer

I just dont get it. I have been a network engineer for 3 years in my company. I spend the whole day working on my shit pentium 4 computer that so fucking slow, crashes, and is basically something I wouldn't use at home. No matter how many times I ask, they refuse to get me a new(er)computer A girl who started a few months ago gets a brand new fucking macbook pro?!? She got it so she can do a company news letter and look at Myspace all day?!?!? WTF? Somehow their department convinced their boss that myspace was a great way to recuit people so I had to unblock the site.

Thats just the way things go where I work. Unless your boss is banging the CEO, your department doesn't get shit. I guess I just need to buy my own fucking notebook computer to bring to work because they provide me with shit and it takes forever to even check my email let alone use anything else.

I suspect in the company budget IT shows up as overhead. You are overhead and a company liability in the way the bean counters look at things, if they can't charge you to a "project" then you are horse pucky in their eyes.

In a perverse twist secretaries and executive staff are classified as "staff" and not overhead and are highly thought of.

People that can charge to a project (techs, programmers and engineers) are one step above "overhead" and are just tolerated.

Just a thought.
