What's up with COVAD?

Covad is a DSL provider. They have been a great DSL provider for years. In the last 2 months or so things have not been so good with Covad. I have constant connectivity issues. They told me to replace all the DSL filters. Did that. They told me they would send a tech and it will cost $175. $175!! They cost me $80 a month in DSL service charges, which I am happy to pay when their service was great. Usually these guys just re-provision the line and no problems for weeks. But no not this time, we have to send out the $175 technician to fix it.

So I call a few more times, try to get them to re-provision the line. No doing, they know me now. I am looking at my dead ASDL modem light and they are telling me everything is great, they see no problems. Guy has thick accent, so perhaps I am out of line and ask "what country is this?" he says Philippines. Ok... Covad USA company, but that's ok. DSL is still dead. Called a few more times try to get someone to do something (like re-provision the line), no doing.

Ah perhaps I can get a Covad employee if I call and pretend I have and administrative issue. So I ask's "what country is this?"... Canada, Canada? Contracted out to Canada administrative support. He says they will waive $250 cancellation charge if I can establish history of "technical feasibility issues", I just have to get the Covad contractor tech support in the Philippines to say in their log that we have a "technical feasibility" issue, which I figure we do.

Few more attempts to call Philippine contracted out Covad help desk support, they will not re-provision the line (must cost a lot of money to do this), even when I turn the freak'n modem off they say they can talk to it, and it is a good connection…. O..K..

Call USA 800 information. Give me a USA Covad Communications number, I don't care where. They give a number in Annapolis Junction Maryland. Call it, it's disconnected!

So I thought, I would be sneaky and called their automated phone routing number and said I was and ISP provider reselling their services (yes I lied). Another lady answered, difficulty understanding what she was saying... I say "What country is this?" she says India, "India?"

Oh my goodness... I'm screwed...

and all I want is for it to work

Few companies emerge from Bankrupcty without ripping off their customers at some point.

Go to cable. I used to work for qwest and the DSL they had never worked right. If you can't get cable in your area, maybe they can set up some form of wireless internet. Maybe.
