I work in a corporate environment (or one that tries to mimic one) Every single day I hear people say, "Thats it. I'm going to go apply at Tims" (A well known coffee conglameration here -on every damn corner). All fine and good. Most who make this statement are making 10 to 20 G more a year than me.
Well.. cry me a fucking river. My heart just bleeds for your pain. I lose sleep over your stress, how do you bare it?

So you wanna work in a coffee shop huh?

They have no idea of how bad it can be in one of those retail shit holes. They just assume that they would automatically be hired (due to their superior-ness to those that work there already of course, kind of like job slumming) and that there is no effort or stress involved in those types of jobs. They are ignorant beyond belief. They think that they could just walk in and be hired with no retail or service industry experience. That is their first mistake, and pretty much says it all about their attitude.

Secondly, there are probably more politics, bullshit, stress and crap in those places than where they are now. Oh, but they assume it only takes a moron to sling coffee. Ignorant bitches have no clue.

Oh, and they would have NO power there. Thats what they don't realize. All the shit they are used to dishing out would simply NOT fly anywhere else. No big fish in a little pond, like they are used to. No coddeling by a passive agressive, mood swinging Vice President. In no other industry would their shit fly, but as specially not in the food service industry. For one thing, they would have to be nice to customers...an effort...and face to face...no phone to hide behind. Oh and by the way, you are there to serve them, not the other way round.

And the money sucks. See how long you can live on those wages....when you are used to your summer cottage and holidays away, paying all your bills on time, kids in all kinds of activities or away at college or uni and skys the fucking limit. Try again. You will not only be struggling to survive financially, you will be shit on by any Joe Schmoe who comes in and decides to take out his free floating anxiety on the person behind the counter. And if you think you can pull your shit on customers there, like you do now. Forget it. Probably be fired in a couple weeks.

In fact, I think it would be an excellent eye opening experience for these people. They are too used to working in a small closed environment where they have influence and control. Actually, the real world ain't like that. They don't know how fucking good they have it.

They need a real life experience, they should all be forced to work there for a month ...FREE of charge.

PS: I have never worked there, but I am intelligent enough to know it is no bed of roses.
