Wise words indeed...

Wise words, sadly not ones that I dreamt up, but worth sharing with you I feel. Kudos to Smiley :-)

1. Any job done exclusively at a desk on a computer can be exported.

2. There are millions of hungry and smart folks available to do your job for less than you.

3. Companies consider people to be disposable commodities, no more important than office supplies.

4. Companies will try to foster loyalty from you while giving none in return. Being loyal to a company is suicidally stupid.

5. When you work for wages, figure out a way to save at least 1/2 your salary so that one day you have a hope of becoming one of the wealthy exploiters rather than a typical exploited wage slave.

6. Think of yourself as 'You Incorporated' and anytime you find yourself feeling positive emotions about any company, slap yourself silly until you get the focus back on yourself.

7. Pre-plan the life you want to lead making sure that it in no way relies on any company or government living up to implied or explicit promises.

8. Unless you were born to a wealthy family who explained all this to you already, you will only believe all this when it is too late to do anything about it.

Number 3 really hits home. The morale where I work is very bad, as a result of horrible management who play favorits and promote only asskissers. Anyway, we were all called into a meeting and told if we are not happy to start looking for another job. Certain people were singeled out and ask specifically, "Do you want to be here - if not, there's the door". Wow, so much for working hard, and screw loyalty. I really wish I could get out of there.

for five to even be realistic? On what I make, and on what a lot of other people make, and what a lot of companies are even willing to offer, this is an unrealistic possibility if one wants pay their current bills.

@Ookie...

Agreed - This would be very difficult for the majority of us (certainly for me atm), however I think that the point is that when (if...) we get into a position where our pay goes up and get relatively comfortable, we adjust our spending to take it into account. When it all goes belly up, or when we decide that actually the job stinks, we're stuffed because we didn't save anything. Easier to say than do though, I'd certainly accept that.

YOur list is A #1. When I was younger I wanted to believe that the PTB were looking out for us, but that was a big crock of shit. As for saving 50% of your income, some areas of the country will charge you that much in taxes if you make enough money! If you live with relatives you could do that but the PTB make it so you can't save easily (people in economic bondage make good corporate slaves. Why do you think they push bank loans and crap on us so much?)

I thought everyone knew that. But for #1 you can add an addendum "if you can do your work at home, chances are someone 7k miles away can too".

I agree with 5 but only if you invest it wisely, for those of us shmucks who try real hard to put %20 away the best you can hope for is not starving at retirement... and if you aren’t putting %20 away for retirement start looking for a cliff to roll your wheel chair off of when your 70 (I guess it's really not that bad). Hey what's up with that old guy over in the uk who can't get his broken ankle fixed because he smokes?

Then on the other hand I just was charged $500 for getting my home heating fixed by a mom and pop outfit and they probably think the same thing about their customers (item 3)… although they do a great job.

I just want to KNOW ONE THING, WHEN ARE THOSE FRIGG'N "JOURNALISTS" AND LAWYERS GOING TO GET OUTSOURCED!!!

They must have lawyers and journalists in Venezueala or China who are adept at "working in the system" cheap.

Sorry for the wondering rant… I’m better now.
