Worst general manager ever.** This might be kind of long, I just really need to rant. My boss is the worst one there is. I'm not even kidding you. I work in shitty a restaurant. My boss is literally the worst guy for the job. He has no sense of cleanliness. He has this whole attitude where he thinks that he doesn't have to clean up after himself, because somebody will do it for him. Like if he makes a food order, he'll leave the entire area looking like shit, and will ignore it. He feels he doesn't have to clean it, because "the mexicans will be here in a few hours to clean it.." (That too pisses me off, he uses the word 'mexican' as a derogatory word.). Not only that, but he also leaves garbage over everywhere, and the mail. He'll refuse to take care of any of it, because "xxx will come in to take care of it" ... xxx meaning me. Another thing is how he's the biggest dick when it comes to the schedule. We have two other managers. He's supposed to work 40 hours every week. He gets paid 80 hours on every paycheck (bi-weekly), and since he's salary, he doesn't have to clock in/out. So he never shows up on his scheduled times, and always hours early. Like he's scheduled at 12 for one day, he'll come in at 2:30. Or he is scheduled to leave at 6, and is out of there by 4. He also refuses to work any days for you if you need it off, but he'll expect you to drop everything you do to take one of his days. One of the other managers needs Sundays off, and said they can't work that day. My boss schedules them for Sunday anyway, then the manager calls my boss and says they can't. My boss just says: "well it's up to you to find someone to work for you" wtf!? So the only way that manager could get sunday off was to work open to close that saturday before, all because my boss' lazy ass wouldn't work. And then he always wants everyone to feel sorry for him, but he'll never show sympathy for anyone else. Like one girl's grandfather died, and she said she had to go out of town for the funeral, and the first thing my boss says is: "How much money do you get?" with this asshole smile on his face. wtf? Is he trying to be funny? Or I'll bring my homework to work, because he schedules me about 25-30 hours a week (I'm in high school), and he'll get pissed at me. If he's gonna schedule me that many hours, I'm bringin homework, so I'm not up til 1am every fucking night. But then he'll always complain about his life, and how much it sucks, and how much he hates his wife and kids sometimes. He's an asshole. And he didn't do our performance reviews for October, which is required by the company, and so one of the other managers told our regional manager, and my boss got in trouble(!). But yeah, he sucks as a person and a general manager. Our (new) regional manager has noticed this too, so I'm really hoping that he doesn't stay the general manager too long. Bad, indifferent managers are the worst sort to work for. The funny thing is that when you read articles about "Managers from Hell," they usually concentrate on bullies and harrassers... but the guy who just DOESN'T SHOW UP (while simultaneously expecting your respect and obedience) is the worst. Unfortunately the reason why there are managers like this who don't get their asses fired, is because that sort of management culture usually pervades an entire company from top to bottom. I'm working in a department where there literally is NO management going on. The guy who's allegedly our Fearless Leader seems to believe personnel management is not part of his job. You know, all this stuff just magically falls into place by itself (no, it falls into place because I never take a fucking day off). And we do very visible work that the whole company sees. And one of these days something bad is going to happen because of this lack of management and it's going to have been something totally preventable. I don't believe that employees (unless they are working in a dysfunctional environment) should have to run around, hat in hand, begging their co-workers to do their work when they need to take a sick day or even a scheduled vacation. THE BOSS needs to assign that work. That's his JOB. It is not supposed to be solely up to the worker to secure these arrangements. It is not supposed to be up to a lowly secretary to say to someone else, "Hey, I've got to go into the hospital for surgery, I need to pick someone and teach them to do my job." (Yeah- why should your co-worker do it for you if the boss isn't expecting her to?) The boss is supposed to be doing a minimum of assigning work and making sure there's a system in place and making sure people understand what roles they have to fill when someone is away. If he doesn't do that... he's no manager and he's not doing his job. The workplace is not supposed to run solely on "friends helping friends." That's bullshit. She is meant to be in charge of my department but she strangely is never there....Our department works mostly in the mornings and the manager is meant to be there at 6am along with the rest of us...however the majority of her shifts are in the late evening when we are not there!! How is she supposed to manage us when she isn't even there at the same time that we are??!! I agree with gloom here. I think the reason why most companies have crappy management is because the el cheapo mentality permeates through the whole damn thing. That's been reality for corporate America since the beginning of industry. In most cases the CEO doesn't give a damn about whether people on the bottom get it stuck up their butt, it's just how American business is. I think a lot of the garbage you hear in the media about how CEOs are ripping off Americans and the economy is going to hell, this isn't new. 50 years ago CEOs and their kind were ripping people off. It's a part of Amurikan culture, my friend. |
