No Damn Wonder No One Sticks AroundOne of the new labor market war cries is that the new generation has no sense of employer loyality. Well, can you blame them? I don't care what anyone says, seniority is a greater liability than an asset. Gone are the days when employers recognized the value of experience that comes with longevity. Now, senior employees are nothing more than a payroll burden. I just got royally fucked by my own seniority -- again. Bad enough Senorita Psycho, the incompetent interior designer wench, shitcanned me for allegedly not knowing my job ... the same fucking work I've been doing for the last 24 years. The same work she knows absofuckinlutely nothing about. Now they went and cashed out my accrued leave balances and, in their infinite generosity, will give it to me in a lump-sum payment. Great. Now I get to pay a shitload of taxes back to the same govt operation that just got through shoving it up my ass sideways. But they're not done with me yet. To fuck up my unemployment, they're declaring the payout as weekly pro-rations to the Unemployment Insurance department. Although I'm getting reamed with a lump-sum payout and losing the balances I've worked two dozen years to earn, the time is being reported to UI in weekly increments. This means I won't qualify for UI until next April. But my "Unemployment Year" begins with the date of termination. I looked into this real closely and there is a glitch in the UI laws that makes it perfectly legal. The UI judge reiterated the same thing. Basically, if you're let go and your employer cashes out your leave balances, they can pay you a one-time lump sum BUT report the time in weekly allocations. They see it as giving you an "advance" in lieu of UI. Same can hold for severence pay under certain situations. Oh, and I get to pay the full fucking health insurance premiums now, too. I've got some interviews coming up, which is really gonna complicate things. Everytime I ask someone how benefit restoration works I get 1.5 different answers. No one knows what they're doing nor do they farkin' care. Anyhow, screw it. I'm done with the management ranks. They were tolerable a while, but I'm going back to being a blue-collar wrench twister. I've had it with the 10-hour days ... the work at home ... the weekends at the office ... salaried. You want 10-hrs out of me? You got it -- OT for 2. You want me on-call 24/7/365? Fine. Pay me my on-call allocation. You want me in a suit-&-tie and to function like I've had a frontal lobotomy? Fuck off. |
