I didn't work there, I survived it!

Okay, this is by no means a joke. I would describe the last place I worked at a mind fuck. I didn't work there, I survived it. The owner was one of those guys that's really dominating.. always has to have the last word, if you do something (anything) wrong, he'll make you feel really stupid about it.
The only way he'll be nice to you? if you work over 40 hours/ week. One day, I was having a short conversation with a coworker and he butted into our conversation and made me feel stupid about something that I said. Twenty minutes later, he asked me if I could stay and work an extra hour, (I agreed)
and all of a sudden, he started acting really nice to me. The reason? well, we don't get paid for overtime and as you can imagine, we are short handed (maybe that is due to how polite the owner is to everybody!) So, I collected my paycheck yesterday and told him I wouldn't be working today, because I didn't "feel like it". The End.

you have to play him a bit, though-- good for you that you didnt work that day because otehr times you pulled your weight above and beyond.

but i wouldnt suggest saying u dont "feel like it". (although thats funny). work him over, maybe? say "i worked overtime, remember? and when [insert name of crack ho co-worker] couldnt get sober to come in, i was busting ass to cover for her....so i need time to get chill and get to the bank to deposit my paycheck....etc"

just trying to help! yea, restaurants are either miserable or just "ok" places to work. it probably all depends on the culture established by a manager. do you agree?

Yes, I definitely agree that restaurants are either "okay.." or "really horrible". Unfortunately, I got the latter. Oh well! I quit and am going back to my old job :) yeay! The End.
