Beware 2nd shift

When I started this job I thought I was dreaming...Sleep in everyday, make more money than I've ever made before, and not an unbearable job to boot. How wrong I was. You see, I work second shift and weekends. This means that I've had about 2-3 meaningful interactions with another human being over the past several months. I wake up and everyone else is at work- It's like an episode of the Twilight Zone where you wake up and your town is deserted.

OK so I'm being a bit overdramatic and overall I'm content for the moment, I'm just saying 2nd shift can suck. The other thing is the job isn't really related to what I want to do with my life. OK I must admit I am learning some valuable skills but I don't want to spend much of my life working this job.

Another 4 months or so? No problem. I will look back on this as a positive experience where I learned a lot and made some decent money. However, 4 months from now (give or take a month or 2) I WILL GET MY LIFE BACK and I WILL NEVER WORK 2nd SHIFT OR WEEKENDS AGAIN.

If you are ever given the option between regular hours and some crazy schedule, please weigh all the pros and cons. Sure with 2nd shift you have no traffic and can sleep in, but is it worth it?

Second shift is definitely not worth it... The only advantage lies in having some bankers' hours to go to the doctor/dentist/credit union/random job offer/ or student loan nazi etc... And maybe some extra peanuts for working afternoons if you're in my crappy death factory line of work... By the time you get out, it's dark and you have like 2-3 hours left to be a consumer whore. Yet if you want to go back to college like I so desperately need to finish, you might as well work midnights because the only available classes for a real major are ALWAYS taught on bankers' hours at non-clown colleges. Keep it evil...

You couldn't be, you couldn't be me even if you wanted to,
Everything I've been through.
Live your life, soaking up all my sunshine,
And smile your whole life,
I wouldn't know

18 wheels are rolling,
18 wheels are crushing,
Me down,
Running me down
Cars are crashing
Cars are crashin, all around me
Running me down,

All my days are numbered,
All my days are grey,
All my skies are covered,
All my ends are frayed,

You couldn't be, you couldn't be me even if you wanted to,
Everything I've been through. You wouldn't know
Live your life, soaking up all my sunshine,
And smile your whole life,
I wouldn't know

Lightning's crashin'
Thunder's rolling all around me,
Bringin me down
Stars are falling,
Fires lighting all around me,
Burning me down

All my days are numbered,
All my days are grey,
All my skies are covered,
All my ends are frayed,

You couldn't be, you couldn't be me even if you wanted to,
Everything I've been through. You wouldn't know
Live your life, soaking up all my sunshine,
And smile your whole life,
I wouldn't know

Feels like I'm falling down,
Inside a fever rising,
Buried my life deep in the ground,
Left my existence lying, so lets go

You couldn't be, you couldn't be me even if you wanted to,
Everything I've been through.
Live your life, soaking up all my sunshine,
And smile your whole life,
I wouldn't know

it depends on the person. ive known people who have worked on saturdays for YEARS, but enjoyed having a wednesday off to get all their grocery shopping/other errands done without the crowds and traffic.

just stick it out a bit longer. youre getting good money!

to answer your question-- for me, its NOT worth it. its just depressing.

Thanks...I agree that it's not worth it. However, it's true that the money is important. I applied at a bank yesterday and if I get the job and it pays me enough to survive I'm probably going to take it. I'm looking to start my own business and it would be great if I could work during the day and then go run my business at night. The bank would be great because it closes at 3 p.m. everyday. But again, the question is going to be does it pay enough? I hope so!
