My job... what happened? My job used to be great. I ran the IT section of the business, unquestioned. I ran it, and it ran good. Near perfect. No downtimes... no nothin. I'm like a god of the technology world. Then the President wants me to do shit regarding business practices. WTF. I'm not a business man... I'm a techie. assholes. So now I got to find a new job, one that will treat me for what I am... the best fuckin IT guy on the face of the planet. It doesn't matter how good you are, the assholes upstairs will always think they're better than you. Dear Mr IT GOD, the world has changed in IT. The government has a lot to say about how IT departments are run, executive staff is now on the hook if you f*** up. Get over it. If you don't like it find another proffession where the gov. is not envolved. I doubt your new job will be that much different. Not trying to be rude. This sh** pisses me off too. It's ridiculous but it's the way it is. Mr. Plankton Had the best record of maintenance out of a company that run 400+ PCs and 4 different networks as well as multiple ISDNs to Australia. Then someone in management decides that they don't need certain resources and started outsourcing to local companies that literally had the missing links working for them. One of the asshats spent a day with me, and immediately thought he would start trying to better things that I could do. Well, when the old mainframe's second array pack controller suddenly shit itself. I went in there boots and all with the CRO and my array of diagrams and tools, the PFY that accompanied me couldn't understand the problems with the disk controller and started to panic. In 4 minutes, I had the controller back up and working again. If they don't appreciate what you know and do, then tell them to get fucked and go elsewhere. But don't pull the IT God routine because that really annoys the suits in the upper level management. Providing they get paid, they don't give a shit about what you can do. First if you think you're indispensable to any "Boss" you're as stupid as you seemed to be after reading your post fuckthisshit I'm a manager in a firm and I'll tell you this. You could be "the best man for the job" and "the greatest IT guy" but it means nothing these days Mr Wonderful! IT guys who have gone through 2 years or more education try to intimidate people and mis represent the actual work involved in administrating a few domains because they seem to have a need complicate things and also a need to feel important or something. fuckthisshit sorry to inform you but your attitude is going to be your downfall. You're worthless to any employer if you think your title is "This" not "that" so you won't do "this" Interpretation: If you're not intelligent enough to be flexible and adaptable to any situation then your so called worth to any boss is about as good as a worker ant is to the queen ant. There's another million more of you out there but who are willing to learn,be flexible, adapt, have a sense of loyalty, humble so on and so on. Grow up fuckthisshit ,the way to think of yourself and the way you explain things shows that you're very young and hopefully still able to learn. So learn fast that attitude is 50% of what a boss is going to judge you on. See MY comments about YOUR other whining session. Are you a Jehovah's Witness "this1iscrazy"? Go fuck yourself and get the fuck out of here... In case you have been living under a rock, the IT profession has become a commodity. Sorry to say it...but its true. In fact the only real IT related career left is Automation Management....which is really Project Management where IT, communications, asset management, forcasting, estimating, etc are bundled together. If your boss wants you to focus on "Business" then you had better do it. Its the only thing that will separate you from a pink slip. Executive managers have become wise to the IT industry. More and more companies are outsourcing all IT related functions, not just tech support. IT infrastructures can be run a fraction of the cost from just 5 years ago. The truth of the matter is IT is not a end product,,,just an overhead cost. Yes, technology is important, but its not a end product. In fact, many managers compare the value of a computer network to that of an HVAC system. IE as long as its up a running, people can do their jobs in a comfortable environment and be productive. I know its insulting for an IT God to be put on the same level as an HVAC repairman....but the analogy is appropriate. Its a hard pill to swallow considering technical colleges are still trying to sell people on becoming IT Professionals. Yes go ahead...stock up on meaningless certifications and practice ways to "wow" people with IT terminology. My advice is learn project management and/or business management. Go back to school if necessary...evolve. |
