Finally! It's been a long time since I've updated here, and w. good reason. One of the irons mentioned in the previous post connected into a finance position at a world wide reputable company. 8 years of blood, sweat, and tears (mainly tears) were wasted at various helpdesks in southeastern New England, but I have gotten out. Granted, finance is still not what I want to be doing, but its a definite step up from deal w. the lobotomy patients that called in on a daily basis. I have liberated myself from the vice-like grip that helpdesk had over me. No longer am I slowly losing the will to live by being chewed up and spit out by my job. The look on my mgr's face when I gave her a 1.5 day notice was priceless. She was not at all worthy of a two week notice due to some rather hurtful decisions she made regarding my time off when I lost both my grandparents in the span of a week back in November. I went in that day and told her I was resigning at 330pm the following day. Instant deer in headlights look. I loved every minute of it. I had mentally checked out about two weeks earlier when I knew I got this job, but waited until the 11th hour to make it official. soxfan2k4 2, piece-o-shit job 0... Just the other day, I got an email from some clown that said an "excellent helpdesk opportunity has come across that you would be a perfect fit for!" At this point, my bullshit detector went wild, for two reasons: 1. The term "excellent helpdesk opportunity" is an oxymoron if I've ever heard one.... At this point, the only way I would even CONSIDER a return to helpdesk is if it came w. a six-figure salary, and major shareholder's stake w. the company. Note I didnt say I would DO it, but I would think about it before tossing it aside like yesterday's garbage. So to all of you out there that hate your jobs, I know exactly how you feel. I was in that same boat for 8 years, and I bailed before it took on more water. I know that it seems as if the light at the end of the tunnel appears to be an oncoming train, but I can promise you it does get better. |
