Cold and Clammy!

I work on the top of a five story building with 600 staff, that means there are a lot of rooms and a lot of doors. To get to my desk, I have to pass through no fewer than eight doors.

Today as I arrive for work, there is another employee in front of me. I don't recognise him, though he has the drab look that tells me he has worked there for the last 20 odd years. He kindly hold open the first door for me, and smiles as I thank him. Again with the second door, and the third and the next. By the fourth door, I'm sick of smiling and cease thanking him. At the fifth door, he holds it open again and jokingly says: "Getting to be a bit of a habit this, isn't it." His laugh sounds as though it's coming through plastic, and I'm sure mine doesn't sound any better. As I reach for the handle, my fingers touch the back of his hand, and I recoil violently - it was like touching the hand of a corpse, and it sickened me. I'm sure he guessed, his face dropped and he hurried away.

walked faster. If this person was holding every door for you, it's obvious that you were very close behind him.
I would have walked through the first door, said thank you (with a smile), and walked faster to the next door so I stayed in front of him. This would not have been rude. In fact, when he held the door open for you each time and you somehow managed to fall behind him each time, he may have misconstured it to be that you expected him to open the doors for you.

You are going nuts there. You need to look for a new job. Life isn't over when we accept a position any where! That is unless you let it.
